Also because hockey is a gay man's sport.

You are a jackass

indeed. Hockey players much tougher than football players. They hit harder, with less leverage to withstand the impact.

This is probably the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

Thank you for the humor.:laugh:
:| you wanna go?

I never said nhl players weren't tough.

But far from as tough as the average Nfl player imo, who basically use their equipment as weapons to go into full speed collisions with each other.

And almost every player is either chiseled like a Michelangelo sculpture, or 300+ pounds with a job of beating the crap out of each other on the scrimmage line every play.

NFL players can't hold a candle to hockey players in terms of toughness, let's not even talk about skill.
When NFL players go more than one round of professional level play per week, then we will talk.

NFL players are merely large pieces of meat that run around and tackle, or they catch a ball and try not to get tackled. I hope when you have only one game a week, 16 games per year (minimum), get paid tens of millions of dollars, that you should be the most sculpted, healthy, ready athlete ever.

I absolutely love both football and hockey. In the end, hockey is the superior sport.

Well put SampSon. NHL players by and large are muscle-bound athletes, whereas NFL players are typically about bulk instead of tone.

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Joe DiPenta was in my graduating class. I remember a few years back seeing a picture of him from his martial arts training. He was doing a splitz, but balancing in midair on his fists.

You can look at the frequency and types of injuries that Nfl players get vs. nhl players. Nfl players get tears, dislocations, and broken bones, while nhl players get out of breath and perhaps an ingrown toenail on a bad day.

Don't get me wrong, hockey is a great aerobic sport, which is why back in his day Richard Simmons probably would have done so well at it. Seriously, he's nhl tuff too.

All of your points probably have some truth to them. 10 years ago I don't think there was a single non-white player in the NHL. Today there are several. In years to come there are going to be more and more. Living in Toronto (a city with large non-white population) I can attest that hockey is becoming ever more popular with first and second generation Canadians.
LOL - that's laughable. There were plenty of black guys in the NHL in 1997.

Jarome Iginla - 1996

Was 1997 ten years ago?? damn, im getting old. I was thinking like... 1980.

Black dudes would totally murder eachother on the ice.. Adding another reason to the list.

No offense of course.

is it:

1) just a general lack of interest (i.e. they're into b-ball more)
2) lack something the white guys do better traditionally (yeah, doesn't make sense to me either)
3) hockey's an expensive sport to be involved in (skates, protective equipment etc.)
4) doesn't really snow where they live (any demographic experts?)

point #3 is something a black friend once alluded to. his point basically was that growing up, it's harder for black families to afford having kids into hockey given their overall economic status.

oh btw, i know this thread has the potential to explode in a spectacular fashion but i'm curious nevertheless.

the question you should be asking is why isnt there ice in africa

Yeah.

Don't forget the fact that most only way to play "real" hockey is in a real arena which costs money to join the league. My friend paid $20 bucks a game to play in his crap local league.

Yes, he is white.

Also black guys don't like to skate wearing tights for thats best left to gay, white folks. Not to mention hockey's appeal is ******, deservedly so. As evidenced by the six fans in the US that watched the All Star game. I think if there was a channel dedicated to showing "watching paint dry" and "watching grass grow', it would probably get more ratings. And for the record, I'm Canadian and neither black nor white.

I don't think any of those 4 are accurate. I think it ha smore to do with geography than anything. Cultural traits are inherited, and our families originated in warm weather climate, so anything cold weather related obviously wasn't a part of early African/black culture; the torch just keeps getting passed down.

Ironically, the few times I did play hockey I acutally liked it. Too bad I have nobody to play with.

Did you confuse hockey with your father's Olympic figure skating career?

Combination of geography > economy. I grew up in Green Bay and the only black people I saw growing up were Packers. This was 30 years ago and things have changed but I didnt go to school or play hockey with any blacks. I now live in Atlanta and there are 6 sheets of ice north of Atlanta and 0 sheets in the city. There are less black people north of Atlanta than in the urban area of Atlanta and driving around here sucks. Cost for my 8 year old in the house league is $850 plus equipment. But I see plenty of well off black people here so I dont think economics are as big a deterrent as implied.

When NFL players start playing without face masks again we'll talk who's tougher.
Also, how many football players have broken their leg on the field and stayed in the play? Wait, what's that none. Daryle Sydor of the Dallas Stars had his leg broken and he crawled across the ice in obvious pain and got infront of his own goal and helped block the puck.
Mike Modano got slashed in the face and had his nose sliced open. He got stitched up in the locker room and was back out on the ice within 10 minutes.
And let's not forget Clint Malarchuk's nasty injury of having his jugular vein cut by a skate and almost bleeding to death on the ice. When he realized what had happened he tried to make his way off the ice because his mother was in the audience and he didn't want her to see him die on the ice. He was given last rights while still in full gear in the tunnel because they thought he was going to die. He was back playing the next week.

Uh which kindergarten reading course did you fail in Trailerparkville? Please scroll up and read the part about me not being white (which again is the exclusive domain of figure skaters).
