Why aren't you a racist?

i don't want to be a racist, but i know that i'm certainly prejudiced. because of my background, i know a little bit about chinese culture which allows me to be discriminating. Discriminating isn't a bad word (learned that in a Poli Sci class). It has come to have a negative connotation, but people discriminate every day... when they decide what to eat, where to go... and, just because people don't discriminate negatively towards people doesn't mean that they don't discriminate. discriminating positively for one person has the same effect of biasness. I learned in college, and you are all free to disagree, that everybody is a racist and prejudice to some extent.

The news, even in my area, seems to show more black or minority related crimes, for whatever reason I dunno. C'mon, I live in NYC, thousands of crimes are committed a day, yet you're telling me that for the hour it's on, they can only find minorities who've committed crimes.

AaronP, like tom3 said people in the poor and oppressed surroundings are inevitably more sucseptible to crimes. just imagine the tables have turned and your parents and your ancestors were to be enslaved and work in africa and they were 'freed' some day left with no social/economic establishment. it is just said how human beings have always been preying on each other, history is a bitch to put it short. criminals are to be punished, white or black; yet some of younger whites are forgetting about their shameful history. if my folks were to be stay under oppresion for 400 years i am sure as hell i wont be nice to the aggressors.

It depends on how you define &quot;racist&quot;.

If you mean do I judge people by the color of their skin rather than the content of their character, I am not.

If you mean I'm a white, anglo/saxon, protestant who's family has been here since before the revolutionary war. In some eyes I am. For those people it's their own racism that has allowed them to judge me that way and thus becomes their problem.
