I don't want to start a big discussion about this, but there have been some really bad reports coming from reviews of the Ultra PSUs. Might want to look around the web before getting one.

Also the latest MaximumPC gave it a 4/10 second to last. The NeoPower recieved a perfect 10.

I'm sure everyone would agree... (apparently not)... no soup for you!

BTW...not only is this not a bad find...it's a great find... that's why I posted it.
I've built scores of systems... it's my opinion (you don't have to agree with me just because I'm right!)

Maybe the best if you want a flashy power supply, but best quality, no.

Yea, i was just reading a write up in this months Maximum PC and while they loved the look, their test system had MAJOR problems using the Ultra X-Connect PS. The rails were way off spec.

Not a fan of ultra but smoke coming from a new electronic isn't a bad thing. All new electronics burn in unless they're done in factory.

What he said is true. It's called "burn in". Kind of like the "new car smell" for electronics. Duh.

On another note, I'd like to add that I have had an Ultra X-Connect PSU for several months now and have not experienced any trouble whatsoever with it.

This story has be reputed by Ultra very strongly. They are of the opinion MaximumPC used an old PSU they were sent merely as "eye candy" and was never intended to actually be powered up (and that MPC didn't ask for a new PSU when deciding to do a review).

Anyway, there should be an Editor's Note in the next MPC edition.

I have a couple of Ultra X-Connects, and they're very good PSUs...my only gripe is that the cables are too long for anything but super-mid-towers or full-size towers...unless you're very creative.

Yeah those ULTRA power supplies are HORRIBLE. I can't believe putting a shiny case on a power supply and making them modular sells so well. They're garbage, even maximum pc says so (and they barely stress things compared to some o/cers)

Powmax and best.

They look funny in a sentence together. Say this out loud: X-connect is a POWMAX.

The Vantec is a good price.

Gonzo2k was right, "It's impossible to educate the opinionated!" But hey, if it works for you, I'm happy for you. I've been working with electronics and building equipment since the early Heathkit and Dynakit days. From my experience, a good, well regulated power supply is always best. I am familar with the new electronics smell, but smoke is always a bad sign. I got a new Antec Sonata, ASUS A8V Deluxe and a AMD 3200+Winchester core to play with this weekend. Wish me luck (and without any smoke).

Why is it that most of your posts are flamebait/trollish/n00bish/just-plain-stupid-and-ignorant? Not only is your logic faulty, you make a sweeping generalization of a gimmicky product.
