Not a bad find, but I believe everyone would agree that the Ultra X-Connect PSUs are the best.

Maybe the best if you want a flashy power supply, but best quality, no.

Aren't Ultra X-connect power supplies built by Powmax? Or at least the mother company of Powmax?? Thought i remembered hearing/seeing that sometime ago??
If that's the case, fuggeddaboudit for getting one of those power supplies! :disgust:

Not a fan of ultra but smoke coming from a new electronic isn't a bad thing. All new electronics burn in unless they're done in factory.

I don't want to start a big discussion about this, but there have been some really bad reports coming from reviews of the Ultra PSUs. Might want to look around the web before getting one.

Gonzo2k was right, "It's impossible to educate the opinionated!" But hey, if it works for you, I'm happy for you. I've been working with electronics and building equipment since the early Heathkit and Dynakit days. From my experience, a good, well regulated power supply is always best. I am familar with the new electronics smell, but smoke is always a bad sign. I got a new Antec Sonata, ASUS A8V Deluxe and a AMD 3200+Winchester core to play with this weekend. Wish me luck (and without any smoke).Originally posted by: thenotebook

What he said is true. It's called "burn in". Kind of like the "new car smell" for electronics. Duh.
