Yes, you can't go wrong with Newegg. They are the standard by which all others get judged.
I think the specs quoted at the bottom of the Outpost page are for each model of HyperX RAM. That whole description is generic for HyperX RAM and not specific to the the PC3200. So 217/434MHz is actually for the PC3500 HyperX and not for the PC3200 running at PC3500. This is why user1234 is confused - I think. :Q Who can make this deal / thread more confusing?

333MHz (PC2700) 2-2-2-5-1 (CAS Latency 2)
370MHz (PC3000) 2-2-2-6-1 (CAS Latency 2)
400MHz (PC3200) 2-3-2-6-1 (CAS Latency 2)
434MHz (PC3500) 2-3-3-7-1 (CAS Latency 2)
466MHz (PC3700) 3-4-4-8-1 (CAS Latency 3)

Nitro, Thanks for your input. A gentle answer turns away wrath.
You are probably correct, however I usually overvolt any ram that I install (for my own use) & tweak the stuffing out of it and the CPU so as to reach the point of diminishing returns.
When HyperX was first introduced it was pretty pricy...then other manufacturers produced a better price-point for equavalent ram. I also tried to buy RAM without the heat-spreader as I could always add my own if I was not satisfied with the preformance.
That was then, and this is now. Been a while since I have seen any preformance RAM without the H/S.

Memory prices to drop at least 30%.

Memory prices have been droping for a few months now, which has been forcasted in the second half of 2004. But don't kid yourself, there will always be short sighted people which only see the current prices, like during the peak in the middle of 2004, some people here were jumping on 512MB PC3200 for $90 and thinking it's a good deal, because the "regular price" is $129 (or so they were led to believe). So prices did come down to $60 / 512MB, but according to industry experts (see article) prices are going to come down by 30-50% by the middle of the year, at least.

Why buy now, if in a 2-3 months you'll be able to buy 1GB for $75 or less.

500MHz (PC4000) 3-4-4-8-1 (CAS Latency 3)

No I'm the least confused. I understand there are different models - like KHX3200, KHX3200A, KHX3200UL, and now KHX3200K ? as well as the 3500, 3700 and 4000 - why would they have a 3500 and 3700 models if the 3200 can be overclocked to the same speed and timings ?

Fact is: KHX3200A which Kingston official spec says is 2-3-2-6 (without specying which clock speed, but since this is PC3200 we should assume they mean DDR 400MHz), actually boots up at 2.5-3-3-7 by default (auto setting in bios) at DDR400. Nobody has yet explained that. If the memory is indeed as rated, it should have been tested at these timings, and then set to boot at these timings by default.

Now the model from this deal is "KHX3200K2/1GR" which is NOT LISTED ON KINGSTON website. So maybe it is different then the crappy 3200 and 3200A, which was sold by outpost.com in its previous deals (I got it twice at two different deals - it was always KHX3200A). But I doubt it. The only really good PC3200 Kingston sells is the KHX3200UL, which can do 2-2-2-5 at DDR400 and 2.7V, as specified in the spec, and confirmed by various reviews. I think a lot of people confuse this model with the crappy KHX3200A model which doesn't even default to its own specs.

But based on the ravingly mad comments here by people who insist that the crappy RAM can be overclocked or work with better timings, I will try to overclock my KHX3200A again. Otherwise I will try to make Kingston pay, as their product should operate at least at spec.

Btw, here's a funny note from outpost website regarding this product:
"Note 1: All Kingston products are tested to meet our published specifications. Some motherboards or system configurations may not operate at the published HyperX memory speeds and timing settings. Kingston does not recommend that any user attempt to run their computers faster than the published speed. Overclocking or modifying your system timing may result in damage to computer components. "

I think I finally get what (L)user1234 is trying to say...

Buy now! ...Don't wait! ...and that this is the fastest, over-clockable sh*t available.

Really, give it a break pal! Have you ever heard of investment capital?

I've been using the KHX3200 for a year and a half on a P4 3.2Ghz HT box for a year and a half and it's great ...and to date this is a good deal. As far as RAM prices go ...it'll be interesting to see what the effects of the Tsunami will have with mfg in Taiwan. I believe the supply will drop and prices will increase.

One day left for the rebate. Nice post nitro28!

KHX = Kingston HyperX
3200 = PC3200
K2 = Kit of 2 pieces
1G = GigaByte
R = Retail

Here is the spec sheet on the Kingston website: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX3200K2_1G.pdf

Maybe it's not listed on the Kingston website because it is an older model of the 3200A and they don't normally add the R on the end on their website.

EDIT: Mmmm, this is interesting. I ordered the Kingston ValueRAM 1G PC3200 dual kit deal for $100 after MIR from Outpost.com the other day. I was checking out the chips and started googling on the numbers. Came up with two hits where what appears to be the model number of the chip matches and they say they got the same chips with their HyperX PC3200. Could Kingston be using the same chips for their ValueRAM and their HyperX? :Q This could be a conspiracy! What do you think user1234?

Via a newsletter I subscribe to called The LangaList by Fred Langa.. In the paid subscribers edition he mentioned an improved hardware sniffer from the ADA32 maker. Its called Everest Home Edition and one of the readers that recommended it claimed it did a good job of identifing his ram. It made me think of this thread. Their site is getting hammered as the LangaList has a good following and users there are also going to be downloading the utility. Anyway, it reported my "old now" HyperX 3200 SPD as

What did I tell y'all ? But the good news is that I managed to overclock mine to 225 MHz @ 2.5-3-3-8, so it's not as bad as I initialliy thought (I have the KHX3200A).

Actually the old model, KHX3200 without the "A at the end was based on the discontinued BH-5 chips, so it's better then the current "A" model. So maybe this outpost deal is really for the old model (but I doubt it).

Nice post, really ? I guess all hot deals posts should have a subject like this one. For example, "Chieftec case for $19.97" should say, "Why buy cooler Mster, look what I bought", or "Staples $10 of $40 Coupon" should say "Why spend more when you can do what I did". We'll have a fine hot deals forums then, right ? At least, if you're a newbie try do try not to make a fool out of yourself and waste people's time. The vanity leading a person to conceiving such a subject is beyond description.

Quite ironic, considering the source of the above. Quote offered in this one seemed particularly ironic and applicable:
"Isn't it ridiculous how some of these people are so full of themselves they think they are this high ranking officials, while in reality they're just losers that have nothing better to do ?
Do not mind user1234, and his mindless blather. Nearly every thread he particpates in actively ends in this unfortunate result.

that's alright, as a platinum member you are allowed, even expected, to make a fool out of yourself

So we could choose an even more intriguing name like "You're not gonna believe this deal...", and then we can change the title of all the hot deals threads to be that. Wouldn't that make everything a lot more intriguing ?

Thanks for that input - I've been holding off buying RAM. The last stick I bought was 512mb of pc2700 for $65 at the end of Feb 2003!! That was at the egg, the same stick is going for $75 today!! I'm used to prices falling dramatically over time unless they have major fab fires. Why can I get a gig of thumb drive cheaper than a gig of basic memory? Oh well, I'll wait till summer
