If you are driving only 8 mph above the speed limit in the left lane around where I live, you are:

1. Holding back traffic, look in your rear view mirror.
2. Being passed on the right
3. Being given hard looks and the finger

In the area I live, left lane traffic flows 20+mph faster than the posted speed limit.

I keep an eye on my rear view mirror. If I see someone coming up behind me going faster, I move over. I do not like being passed on my right.

I think that more often than not this issue straight comes down to too many old people (over 70+) on the highways and roads. Some senial old fart driving in the left lane with there right blinker on going 55 in a 65 zone. This is what constantly causes accidents in the Tucson/Phoenix corridore cause people are having to pass them on the right, they speed up or slow down, and just screw up impeeding traffic. That or they are trying to play cop and block all us younguns from moving too fast or passing them.
I say instead of the "left lane" law we need an "old fart" law that just keeps em off the road

but I see more younger people (mid 40's) and or more foreign drivers just holding up the left lane for no reason. and what pisses a lot of people off is that, even when they are being tailgated and have about 15 or so cars behind them, they seem to not care or don't know that they are impeding traffic. most asshats will get over in the left lane when they are good and ready, which not only causes the traffic to back up, but a lot of road rage and anger.

I personally never go over 80 mph (with short burst to 90mph seldomly), which makes me a conservative driver most of the time. So I will keep in the next to left lane on a 3 lane highway a majority of the time while driving, and move into the left lane to pass where appropriate.

Come to Colorado. That law was passed last year. If you are in the left lane, you best be passing someone or you will get a hefty fine. They passed the law because people would get in the left lane and cruise at 45mph.

in my area, most ppl drive about 15 above the speed limit in the far left lane. the normally flow of traffic is usually 5-10 miles per hour above the speed limit

"Keep Right Except to Pass" has been the law in Oregon, Washington, and California since before I was born. The law is never enforced. It's total BS. In the Seattle area, they will have "Keep Right Except to Pass" signs on the left side every single mile, and yet every damn fool up there rides the far left lane to the point where it is the slow lane and the passing lane is one lane out from the left.

110kph * 0.625 = 68.75mph

Australia is quite possibly the least free major democracy in the world at this point. Censorship to the point that freedom of speech and press are no longer guaranteed, and speed cameras that automatically (and without notice to the driver) mail out tickets that cannot be appealed.

Good for Colorado if they enforce this. We have a law here but the State Troopers refuse to enforce it at all.

I live in CO so I have some experience with the nutcases that call themselves drivers in this state. Yes we do have asshats that love to drive the speed limit or just slightly over the speed limit (ie the flow of traffic) in the left hand lane which serves to piss off everybody on the road. But then there are the asses that go WAY over the speed limit in the left hand lane. An example would be when I'm going down C-470 and passing folks in the right hand lane, the speed limit on this particular highway is 65 mph. I'm typically going 75-80 mph in the left hand lane and yet I still have arseholes that tailgate me. Now keep in mind that if I'm going 80 mph and a person is tailgating me I do pull in to the right hand lane as soon as I can but those arseholes are going WAY too fast at approximately 85-90 mph which is 20-25 mph over the speed limit which there is no call for at all. If I remember correctly going that fast over the speed limit in this state constitutes a ticket for reckless driving.
