I have an ABIT KT7-RAID motherboard and a 1 GHz Athlon. My RAM is 256MB of Crucial CL2 PC133.
Since getting my computer, I've had it set to 10 x 100 FSB = 1000 MHz, and it's run fine. But I recently read that I could get improved performance by utilizing the 133 FSB with my PC133 RAM. So, in my SoftMenu BIOS, I set the cpu to 7.5 x 133 FSB. I hit save to CMOS and exit, and it restarts.
However, that's as far as it will work. It doesn't post (my monitor stays "reset"), the hard drive light comes on and stays on (even though it doesn't sound like the HD is even being read), the CD-ROMs read once each, and then it just stays like that --- black screen, HD light stuck on, no sounds or beeps or anything. It just will not boot.
I tried holding down DEL, but it will not post to a BIOS screen. I tried holding down INS to load defaults, but no luck. It just sits there. So I reset the CMOS using the jumpers on the mobo, and then it booted with the default settings (cpu set to 500 MHz, all default stuff, etc). When I set it to 10 x 100 again, it works fine.
I even tried going 5 x 133 (the slowest possible setting using the 133 FSB), but no luck there either.
Any help in getting this to work would be great. Thanks!
