Why are babies and toddlers always moving around, pulling at things moving things and trying to eat things? Why can't they sit still, is there something in their brain that keeps them from sitting still for any length of time?

Same reason why can't teenagers keep their hands out of each other pants - curiosity.

They've just not been diagnosed and medicated properly yet.

I've got a 5 year old the same way. All his friends are the same too. I think every cell in their bodies is telling them to move, jump, climb, play fight, and fidget. They don't need to be diagnosed with anything, that's the way kids are, especially boys.

Yeah, they all have ADD or clinical depression. They won't be diagnosed till junior high, though.

if everything was new to you, you probably wouldn't want to sit still either.

They're trying to interact with the world in as many ways as they can. That's how all young creatures learn about the world. All that moving around also helps develop muscles that they will need later in life. When a baby giraffe is born, it has already fallen ten feet since mom doesn't lay down, and then mom starts kicking it and making it move any way she can. If junior doesn't develop those muscles from the instant it is born it will be eaten.

that's how they learn. from touch and people's reactions to their actions. adults on the other hand, have different reasons.
