Why cant mobo makers start making every pci/apg slot have a separate irq so we wouldnt have to worry about irq conflicts

Wondering why they just dont start to do that because that seems like it would be more useful and better to do. Plus cant they create more IRQs if they got to?

Wh do we need more IRQ's when we have IRQ sharing, and it works like a champ?

I am not an expert on this and I am sure some of the other guys here can answer you question better but I believe there is a limit to the amount of IRQs that a mobo can have due to current mohterboard technologies. Probley because of something intel did. No Joke.

John well i meant to avoid problems with certain hardware that doesnt work with ACPI too well , etc because i hate ACPI issues or irq sharing issues.
Didnt IRQs use to be used only once ?

I asked about this a while ago, and the reason you dont want more IRQ's is that it would add latency.

Slacker this may be a dum question but can you explain latency please because i want to make sure i know what it means. I think i know what it means but i want to be 100% sure i am right.

Thanks

IRQ sharing works with some hardware, but not all. As an adjunct question . . . why can't ACPI use ALL available IRQs for sharing instead of just 5 on up? Why can't it use 3 and 4 or even 7 after we disable both com ports and LPT1 in BIOS?

The FAQs don't address this ACPI shortcoming.

The same can be said for mom BIOS. Why can't PCI slots use all available IRQs?

Basically it is a delay, a device waiting its turn to talk to the CPU. here is part of the definition of latency from dictionary.com............ 2: the time that elapses between a stimulus and the response to it [syn: reaction time, response time, latent period] 3: the state of being not yet evident or active
