Why did you pick your current car?

Simple question. There are lots of cars similar to yours, so why did you pick yours? Was it the transmission? The brand name? The look?

I won't say anything about my car since I already have enough threads going where it's me vs everyone else.

2006 Fusion SEL I4/5sp

Technically I bought it because the Fusion I had before was awesome

It was an 07 S I4/auto. When it got totaled I basically wanted one just like it but manual and more options, so I did. The reason I bought the 07 was that it was a reliable cheap car with good mileage, and I got an especially good deal on it ($10k even, 2 years ago!)

I picked it because I needed a 4 door sedan (had a newborn at the time) and wanted something a) cheap, b) reasonably fun to drive, c) comfortable, d) roomy, e) safe.

I drive a 2003 Nissan Maxima SE I bought new in April 2003. Nissan had released the 2004 Maxima which was a completely new car so they were heavily discounting the remaining 2003 models they had in stock. I paid $22,900 for my car which was less than an Altima cost at the time but I have the VQ35 engine, HID headlights, better quality interior, power moonroof, power drivers seat, Homelink, power mirrors, power door locks, power windows. Plus I got 1.9% financing for 5 years through Nissan.

It has been a good car and I'm still driving it today with almost 98,000 miles on it. I'm ready for something else but have no plans to replace it anytime soon. I own it free and clear so the lure of a car payment isn't exactly doing much to motivate me to replace it.

2001 Infiniti QX4(soon to be replaced)

Cargo space, reliability, luxury, off-road ability, high ground clearance, looks and at the time most HP for in it's class.

2005 wrx wagon. I was 17 with approximately 20k to spend on a good, reliable, safe car that had some room (mom requirement that it not be small). Subaru makes good cars, it was fun to drive, and at the time there weren't many other cars that fit the categories so I bought it. Love it, no intentions on selling.

My wife is still pissed that we got rid of our 02 6mt.

I had a short list:

about $40K
4 doors
manual
about 300hp
A. rwd B. awd
and leather/sunroof...

there were only a handful of options but we decided on the G37.

So I could tow a U-Haul trailer full of rocks while my tires are inflated to sidewall, downhill both ways to the gym and back, all while rocking an engine-cooling automatic transmission.

Replaced my 2006 Toyota Corolla with a 2007 Honda Civic. The reason for the change was because I switched jobs and became a consultant. The Corolla had a MT and since my new job was 250 miles away, I had to commute to work during the week then drive home on the weekends until we sold our house. Plus, my new job would require me to drive to lots of different client sites and I didn't want to deal with a MT in traffic.

Since I bought the Civic I've put 27,000 miles on it in 11 months.

Luck. My preference was for a black GM sedan, and just before I got my full license, as I started looking for cars, my father found a Grand Prix sitting on the side of a street in Medford with a for sale sign. I didn't even know it was being bought until I got home from vacation two weeks later.

95 mazda miata. I wanted to have a 2 seater convertible at least once in my life so I picked the best one you can buy. Being cheap and easy to find also helped.

89 dodge caravan turbo. I wanted to play with a turbo charged car and I needed something to haul my dogs and other crap.

I wanted to pick up a used 2008 TL, but used car pricing was ridiculous and I ended up with a 2010 TL. The looks have gradually grown on me.

Because it's awesome. It has more features than I need, but it's nice to finally have leather and a moonroof. And it's got some kick to it and is fun to drive.

05 G35x

previously owning a 98 maxima GLE, autothat went from 54k to about 112k it was flawless other then swaybar end links. I took it to the track and pulled like 16.2 or something horrible. I liked the VQ motor so why not go with the bigger brother. I was shopping for a 05 maxima but for the same price i saw some infiniti as well. I wanted AWD because of chicago weather, sedan because it was cheaper to insure and when i got into a coupe i had no headroom. I'm not a big guy at 6'0 and 165lbs but i felt cramped in the coupe. I mainly just crossshop a Legacy GT and a G35x, i couldn't find the LGT that i wanted and the G35x show up at a insane deal.

right now from 29k to 54k just about flawless. might need a bushing and once in a while i dislike the MPG (18.5)

I wanted a good engine, reliability, and not too much $$$. The 370Z fit the bill really well, and the price was excellent on the car I purchased. Two years later, the only 'repair' I had was to replace an OEM speaker that started to rattle a little bit. the car has been a dream.

2004 Audi A4 3.0 V6 Quattro.

I wanted AWD, it had all the options. Test drove several, enjoyed the V6 way more than the 4T. Subaru's at the same level were same price, so went with Audi. Plus it is aesthetically pleasing. There are only a couple of things I want to modify on exterior this summer to make it perfect, not including wheels.

I wanted something smaller and with better mileage than my truck. I was really eying the 350z but wanted 4 seats so I opted for the G35 coupe. Now, years later, here I am wishing I had gotten something more practical, like a small truck or a sedan. Oh well live and learn. If I had the money right now I'd totally hop on the new Focus Hatch.

I picked mine because there wasn't a lot to choose from.

2000 Nissan Xterra

I wanted a small truck based SUV with a manual transmission.

I keep thinking of getting a new car but every time I find something I'm interested in it only comes with an automatic. I'' probably keep driving my truck until it falls apart.

'68 Mustang

There actually isnt a lot of similar cars. I picked mine because its a classic, and I like old school. And I just like it.
