Why do Americans have terrible toilets?

Americans eat the most in the world. I presume that means that the "output" of Americans is also larger than the rest of the world.

Yet, for some reason, the toilet hole diameter in America is like half the size of Europe.

I have never heard of a toilet clogging in Europe. It is damn near impossible. But in the USA this happens all the time.

Why did the founding fathers not think of these things and decree a minimum toilet hole size?

That's one of the things I noticed after spending time in Europe too. They have some funky toilet designs but they work extremely well...

Maybe we just go on a regular basis, thus no need for a toilet with a hole large enough for a watermelon.

low flow is now resulting in backed up sewer systems. Not enough water flow to keep the poop and juice flowing to the treatment plant. So municipalities now have to flush the sewers with water. Yet another alarmist eco-KOOK idea that fails all cost effective analysis and results in ruinous public policy.

That's another area where the Europeans do it better. Toilets usually have 2 flush buttons, one for pee (less water) and one for poo (more water).

Because we go for the cheapest models possible. Who wants to spend hundreds of dollars when you can get a model for $70. They are all the same right?

Landlords, and many homeowners, will just buy the cheapest toilet available like the Glacier Bay ones they sell in Home Depot, and they get what they pay for.

When we bought our house, it had one of those Glacier Bay toilets, and that thing would clog easily. We quickly replaced it with a Kohler toilet that was around $200, and in the 3+ years we've had it, we have yet to need the plunger.

My dad installed one of those in the entry way bathroom.

They weren't terrible until "low-flow" was mandated.

Which is why we haven't replaced our 30 year old toilets. They're in great shape and I don't think we've ever clogged one.

Still, low flow is better than this:

Because, 150 years ago we would just blast a hole in the ground with our shootin arns and squat, that's why. While Euros were closeted in committee debating the perfect size shitter, we just kicked the dirt back in the hole and continued building THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH.

I've wondered why the low flow toilets don't have higher tanks like the first toilets had. Wouldn't having the water fall a greater distance increase flushing power?

Adding to the previous comment re: low-flow, there is a model out there called the "Champion" thats made by several different manufacturers including Kohler and American Standard. While it is considered a low-flow, it is virtually uncloggable and claims to be able to flush a bucket of golf balls in one flush.

So far it lives up to those claims.

And I shit bricks regularly, so I know.
