Which is why we haven't replaced our 30 year old toilets. They're in great shape and I don't think we've ever clogged one.

Still, low flow is better than this:

could you imagine the outrage by our obese citizens if this was the norm? lol

Low flow suck but remember in the 80's as a kid when the toilet overflowed because you used half a roll of toilet paper? Panic sets in that moment when you realize it's not going to make it and know that the entire bathroom floor will soon be covered with wet paper and poop. And a inch of water. You run around back and forth frantically trying to figure out how to stop it. At least now it doesn't overflow. I still hate the new ones though. The one downstairs constantly stops up with barely any paper.

as a European, my toilet can flush a hippo or medium sized American. Seriously though, there's been some of those shits like Eddy Murphy used to tell about where I thought "there's no way in hell all that paper can possibly fit in those pipes" but sure enough, it just gobbled up all that shit with no complaints, thinking about it I have actually never clogged a toilet here and I'm quite generous with the 3-ply.

low flow is now resulting in backed up sewer systems. Not enough water flow to keep the poop and juice flowing to the treatment plant. So municipalities now have to flush the sewers with water. Yet another alarmist eco-KOOK idea that fails all cost effective analysis and results in ruinous public policy.
Not that I expect the sewer workers to get it but the right fall on the line is important.

You can buy them here.

If we can put a man on the moon why can't they make a pill that makes our poop smell like roses and never stops up the toilet?

Poppycock. Everything they flush is in many tiny pieces. They need to put a big wad of paper in there, or maybe a brick...

If you're crapping mason bricks, perhaps you need more fiber if your diet

The reason we use low flow is because Americans know that their shit doesn't stink, therefore we don't mind a clog every now and then or backed up sewer systems.

I was thinking that the hole in my toilet is bigger than the girth of the shit that comes out of me. What I want to know, is what are the Europeans doing to their rectums that results in needing much larger holes in the toilets for their shit to fit through?

I can see low flow toilets being an issue between the house plumbing and the service lateral, but low flow devices do not cause backups between the gravity sewer and the waste water treatment facilities. Most systems utilize a system of gravity pipe to dump waste water into a pump (lift) station. The pump station will activate at a predetermined water depth and send the flow through pressurized force main that ultimately discharges into the headworks of a treatment plant.

I'm not aware of any of my clients (municipalities/utility departments) flushing gravity sewer systems due to the increase of use of low flow devices. Between use of the sinks, showers, toilets and washing machines in a home, there is plenty of water to continually cleanse the sewers with a proper scouring velocity (~2 ft/s).

If these types of backups are happening, then there are other problems with the system:

1. Improper slope of gravity sewer;
2. Damage to the gravity sewer;
2. Grossly oversized gravity pipes. I see this in areas where a gravity pipe is sized to support 1,000 homes but only 50 homes are developed; and/or
3. Sometimes the first leg of a gravity sewer (dead end street) can have issues with improper scouring but I'm not aware of severe backups that require continual maintenance.

Keep in mind that we design these pipes so that they can be cleansed as part of a long term maintenance plan. Most utilities don't perform this maintenance since they are usually understaffed and/or busy elsewhere.

I hate low flow toilets since you typically have to flush them a couple times to be effective regardless the size of the waste.

This here is the best plunger money can buy hands down! I had plugged the toilet up something awful and god knows what I ate but fuck! LOL

These work by plunging a massive amount of water through the toilet.

That's another area where the Europeans do it better. Toilets usually have 2 flush buttons, one for pee (less water) and one for poo (more water).

Both of mine do this. Press the lever and let go, small amount of water. Push and hold for large amount. I think most of them in the last decade have this feature here in the US.
