Why do cat owners think it's acceptable to let their mongrels roam the neighborhood?

Idiots moved into the neighborhood recently, and now we have a cat roaming the neighborhood. First off, I fail to see how having your pet roaming loose in the neighborhood is ever a good idea, but I also cannot imagine the gall of thinking that my neighbors would want my animal wandering around.

Second, what's amusing is that this is definitely a dog neighborhood -- probably every third house has a dog and about half of them are large breeds. Woe be the cat that wanders into the wrong yard.

Third, I was walking my dog, and this damn cat is sitting there. Now, my dog absolutely hates cats stemming from them invading our garage in our first house, but I've never let her go after them off-leash because I'm worried what she would do since she's a 75lb Rhodesian Ridgeback. I don't appreciate having this feline squatter lounging around interrupting my dog's walk, primarily because it disrupts her "business".

Keep your cats inside. :|

Because they like to be outside? Because keeping them inside often makes them crazy? To kill rodents? Because they're freaking cats?

Why do people who own children think it's ok to let them roam the neighborhood? They tear stuff up, make LOTS of noise, damage cars, break windows, ring doorbells, and generally create nuisances of them selves...
Keep your dammed kids home!

Post back when you have gophers and other rodent problems.

That and thank you for walking your dog responsibly.

<---dog and cat owner. If your dog chomped my cat then that is MY problem, not yours. They're animals.

If you let your kitty be an outdoor kitty you assume the risk. But a happy kitty likes to be outside and hunting.

We had this problem once. Both my neighbor and I used a live trap and captured all the little bastards and took he took them to the SPCA where he works which is in a town about 30 miles north of us.

Saw a dead one in the street this morning as I was going to work. I guess it was better to leave it out

Same reason parents think it's acceptable to let their mongrels (children) roam the neighborhood.

Because it's in their nature?

This thread may make it into the top 10 stupidest yet.

They wander into other people's yards and damage their property.

They often get run over while trying to run across the street.

Other animals such as dogs tend to tear them apart, especially when the cat runs into the yard. My friend has a doberman that used to tear the cats to pieces by violently shaking its head. I have it on video somewhere around here, I have to look for that tape. The best part is that it's 100% legal, as the cat wandered into a fenced in yard that contained the dogs.

It's in the cat owners nature to do that? Read the title of the thread.

I don't blame the cats for wanting to roam, for that's what they do. He's blaming the cat OWNERS for allowing them to do that. Hell, most dogs would like to take a crap on your front lawn, but the dog owner should not allow that.

I think the major problem is that while most dog owners feel a sense of responsibility and don't let their dog roam, cat owners, who are often emotional wrecks, think that it's their cat's right to roam the neighborhood.

Cats are supposed to be outside, especially at night. Besides if the cat wanders into your yard and the dog is there, the cat is going to leave there pretty fast.

Keep your Dog inside. And while you're at it, if you do decide to walk that beast, pick up the huge loads they leave. I had a corner lot for 6 years, and really hate pompous asses like yourself that didn't clean up after your pets. I love dodging doggy bombs from lazy dog owners. :|

So your big beef is that the cat is simply sitting there? Asshole neighbor of the year award is on it's way to you.

Cats running around is the reason I have a .410 sitting right next to my front door.

WRONG.

No, they are not. You as a pet owner have a legal responsibility to contain your pet.

And about the cat simply leaving, you'd be surprised by how fast some dogs are.

Cats are NOT SUPPOSED to be outside. If they roam into my yard and become a constant nuisance I am going to trap it and you will never see it again. Go ahead, let your cat roam.

I wonder why cat owners are so much more emotionally unstable than dog owners? If you show a dog owner a video of a dog getting killed, they feel sad for a second and then take measures to make sure that their dog doesn't meet the same fate.

If you show cat owners a video of a cat getting killed, they go apesh!t. Then they make no changes whatsoever to prevent this from happening to their cat. If anything, they'll stock up on more cats.
