Idiots moved into the neighborhood recently, and now we have a cat roaming the neighborhood. First off, I fail to see how having your pet roaming loose in the neighborhood is ever a good idea, but I also cannot imagine the gall of thinking that my neighbors would want my animal wandering around.
Second, what's amusing is that this is definitely a dog neighborhood -- probably every third house has a dog and about half of them are large breeds. Woe be the cat that wanders into the wrong yard.
Third, I was walking my dog, and this damn cat is sitting there. Now, my dog absolutely hates cats stemming from them invading our garage in our first house, but I've never let her go after them off-leash because I'm worried what she would do since she's a 75lb Rhodesian Ridgeback. I don't appreciate having this feline squatter lounging around interrupting my dog's walk, primarily because it disrupts her "business".
Keep your cats inside. :|

Cats? Cats? It's those whippersnappers who let their kids roll their balls onto my lawn that I wave my cane at in apopletic fury.

I think what is pulling the average lifespan of outdoors cats down are just the accidents and the spread of diseases. Those who live long live about the same as indoor cats but alot more die because of accidents. Then there is also the issue of the psychological issues which can affect an indoor only cat. Using that very same reason people might as well keep their kids inside.Originally posted by: Turin39789
Agreed, I have been looking for the original research and have been unable to find any. Very frustrating.
I think the one thing the are agreeing on is that letting your cat outdoors has a negative effect on it's lifespan. Pretty much all of them say that it cuts their life expectancy by at least half.
You've also got other reasons besides the animal's health for doing so, such as courtesy to your neighbors.
But I agree with you about the neighbors. If your neighborhood is not cat friendly then it is reckless for the sakeof your cat and disrespectful in regards of your neighbors.
You may also be a bit limited in your view by where you live. There are actually quite a few things like foxes living where I live that can prey on cats as well. I'm not sure what kind of wildlife is native to Iceland that could prey on a domestic cat.
very true, the only animals dangerous to cats here are humans, dogs and other cats, and lately seaguls (mean motherfuckers)
but on the other hand we have cold (not as cold as some parts of the US though) and bad weather

Cats are supposed to be outside, especially at night. Besides if the cat wanders into your yard and the dog is there, the cat is going to leave there pretty fast.

Oh please, I live out in the country, and cats are not the only reason I have that little shotgun sitting there. Raccoons that get on the porch, and skunks also.
Only pussies leave their weapons locked up where they are useless.
And the little shotgun is far superior to a 22, sometimes they are moving and don't hold still. Quick, clean death.
If they are further out I might grab the AR or something like that, but the .410 usually does the trick.

folklore. Also many dogs get maimed by feral cats when left tied in a back yard.
Your pets and kids (until they are responsible enough) should be outside only under supervision.
You live in a real farm town then feel free to let your animals roam your acres and acres....under 10 doesn't count.

"In general, cats live longer than most dogs. An average life span might be 12 to 14 years, with some cats reaching 20 and more. A cat's longevity depends on whether or not it lives indoors or is allowed outdoors (outdoor cats live an average of eight years), genetics, feeding, enviroment, veterinary care and some other factors. The general consensus is that at about age seven a cat can be considered "middle-aged", and at age 10 and beyond - old."
and

"In countries with good veterinary care, the average life-span of a neutered domestic cat (barring accidents) is considered to be 14 years old although there are signs that this may be increasing. More and more cats are reaching their late teens or early twenties. Life-span is determined by several factors: good genetics, good general care, good health care, good diet and a relatively safe environment. In the wild, cats fall victim to accidents, illnesses, food shortages and predators and may live 6-8 years."

no one is agreeing with anything! so we cant for a fact say anything except that on average indoors cats live longer than outdoor cats

Damn cat keeps piss_ng over our plants, cars, shoes. Ive seen it and have vowed to destroy it.
I left a huge pan (40litre low pan) full of anti-freeze/radiator coolant by "mistake" outside for the past few days, apparently this can kill animals that try and drink it. oops.
Hopefully the cat be gone
PS
Changed water pump in car, had to drain coolant.

Quite the shocker huh? Pet lovers are like some other special interest groups out there; they don't care if what they say is true, they just figure if they say it 1000 times everyone will start believing it. No need for actual scientific studies, just make something up that sounds good and supports your agenda.

Cats are not dogs. You just can't keep them inside, and you can't use a leash with cats.

So you stand there and let a cat piss on your shoes, and then you have the nerve to complain about it? Serves you right!

Why would i let a cat p**s on my shoes?
we have a shoe rack you retard. the cat comes around the back of our house and "marks its property" on them. I complain about it cuz the owner should have their cat on their own property. I think its a case of fair game if the neighbours killer dog came on my property, cuz they refused to keep it under tabs then yes it would be a goner too.
I didnt think my post was to offensive, ive blanked out the possible bad words.
I am aware that kids take aliking to it to, i have kids they arent stupid.... maybe your kids are.
Also to the douche whos friend committed suicide drinking the antifreeze: If he was committing suicide then he wanted to die!!! the way he chose to do it was up to him. If you are offended by my post then tuff luck.

The funny thing about your flagrant generalizations is how far off you are. Few cat owners let them roam because...guess what...they get killed.

I think the major problem is that while most dog owners feel a sense of responsibility and don't let their dog roam, cat owners, who are often emotional wrecks, think that it's their cat's right to roam the neighborhood.
And I thought the OP was removed from reality! You should work for the government!

There is such a thing as attractive nuisance. However; it's wasted on you, the pompous dreg of society. I could explain all the details of this, but why waste my time...I am sure you would just respond in some ignorant manner like you already have.
Also (I am sure your honor student bumper sticker is there), kids normally are not stupid...however; they are extremely curious if they are smart. Most of the world's elite did not do well as kids. I digress.
Your shoerack in the backyard proves this BTW! go out and profit! U B da nex Bill Gates!
As a higher level animal, we owe a bit of due diligence to the lessers.
This is just my opinion.
