Why do gas stations give you little brown bags when you buy single cold beers?

What are these little brown bags supposed to achieve? I'm here in Texas, and the law, as in most states I would guess, is that you cannot have an open alcoholic drink in the car. So I get that you stick your beer in the little brown bag and you can not longer clearly see its a beer.

But why one earth would ANYONE other than someone drinking a beer illegally put a silly little brown bag around their beer? It seems it would be an instant target for cops, possibly worse than no bag at all because a beer can might be mistake for a red bull or some stuff.

What is supposed to be accomplished?

Thanks.

It's more of an unwritten law in the inner cities. They really don't care if you drink but if you have it out blatantly, they have to hassle you for it. Oh and it keeps the beer from sweating all over ya.

That small, wrinkled-ass paper bag allowed the corner boys to have their drink in peace, and gave us permission to go. and do. police work...the kind of police work that's actually worth the effort. That's worth actually taking a bullet...

Because most people that buy single beers are doing so to drink it immediately because they are alcoholic retards.

Point of it is to try to conceal it somewhat. Though it might just make it stand out more.

In South Dakota it's illegal to sell alcohol without a paper bag to cover it.

*shrug*

BAGGING ALCOHOL
Q: Is there a law which requires a business to place alcohol purchases in a bag or box?
A: No. The South Dakota Department of Revenue says this is a matter of store policy.

The guy filling up the propane tank for my grill the other day told me it was illegal to fill a tank that didn't have sticker with the manufacture date. We were right next to his big tank and I asked if he could show me its sticker. He said since the big tank was used to fill other tanks it wasn't needed.

Your tank doesn't ever need to be filled? I asked.

He seemed about to get irritated that I wasn't buying his gas station employee expertise so I pointed out where the date is permanently stamped into the tank. He grumbled that those were hard to see and preferred a sticker. A sticker doesn't even make sense and I've never seen one but I kept quiet and let him fill the tank so I could cook dinner.

In Jersey, we get people to pump our gas.

They are called gas attendants.

Many residents of the "Garden State" that visit PA, NY, DE, etc. are clueless how to pump gas. Can't tell you how many time I've seen them ask someone for help or just sat in their car and no one came to pump their gas

And yet NJ has some of the lowest gasoline prices in the nation. I guess it doesn't hurt to have a refining plant in the state. But how does that explain why NY state has some of the highest prices in the nation, if you don't include the left coast.

Do you have to tip the gas attendants?

I believe they have no experience, because NJ doesn't allow simpleton residents to self-serve.

New Jersey also has the second lowest gas tax in the nation while NY has the 3rd highest.

So you don't have to turn in your man card by being seen with a Bud Lite or similar girly beer.
