Why do I feel double screwed by the recall.

So I just built up my system with an I2600k, 8gb ram, 2 TB HD;s in Raid, OCZ SSD, Blue ray and DVD burner and I cannot really use the raid to backup any data!

I have been out of the loop for a while but As I understand it, the RAID array is created on the MOBO chipset. If i create the Array on the faulty Chipset and then get a new MOBO my raid arrays is kaput right? This is how I think it is, correct me if I am wrong.

If this is the case then I just have (2) 1 TB hard drives sitting until April or May that I cannot really use and they depreciate in price fast. Not only are they useless, If i didnt actually have them when April/may comes and my board is replaced I could have purchased probably 2 2TB drives for the same price.

This leaves me stranded trying to squeeze all my data into an 64gig SSD waiting for a new mobo so I can put my 2 HD's to use. Anyone else build a PC and have issues not being able to migrate data because of this bug?

RAID is not a backup solution? If you have a real external backup, you wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

I Dont mean "Backup" I actually mean "migrate". The old PC i was replacing is going to be sold. So I was planning on migrating all my data over to the New PC. Sure I dont "Need" raid nor am I being forced to do it but why not get the full performace out of the system?

What is so great about RAID, doesn't it just make multiple hard drives look like one big one?

Buy a pci raid controller...?

Raid makes one big hard drive that is significantly faster.

LOL yeah i am trying to avoid that key word : "Buy" and at that point there is not an advantage in even replacing the board at all.

Dumb question : performace on PCI raid vs mobo raid? Is there a performance issue?

PCI RAID will sometimes come with different types of RAID but most motherboards support all the types you would need anyway, the performance can be better but depends on the motherboard you compare it to and the raid card.

At this point I think i am better of just getting another 1 TB hard drive to move the data and then waiting it out.

RAID-0 striping or RAID-1 mirroring?

If it's RAID-0 striping, you need an external drive for backups anyway, since RAID-0 roughly doubles the chance of losing all of your files. With RAID-0 if either drive dies you lose 100%.

OP, you can generally migrate RAID arrays between the same vendor's chipset. Thus, you should be able to create the RAID on your current board and then have it be detected by your new one. There are absolutely no software or microcode changes in the new P67 revision, they are simply reworking a faulty transistor.

they aren't even reworking the voltage gate like was first thought from what i heard they are just disabling it because it isn't even a vital component, its vestigial, like an appendix.
