I'm a daily smoker, but I would never party with a cop. I'm suprised your GF, and her family, feel comfortable with this. :Q I know I wouldn't.

I know there's cops that party, but they party within their own ranks. What are you gonna do when you run across those guys?

Because of your dilemma, this is relationship is doomed. End it now, before you get in too deep.

yeah i was under the impression that in NY possession for personal consumption wasn't really even enforced. at most It is a ticket offense similar to a noise complaint if they enforce it at all. On long island you will have bigger problems on your hands then a few dope smoking hippies.

I thought we could decide which laws we wanted to obey now?
Or is that only for immigrants?

Exactly. Wasn't there that one story of how a cop killed a guy once?

He was certainly breaking the law

What's your problem with me and marijuana? It's not even addictive...

why are you so defensive? you sound like a broken record, just shut up already.

Good thing you actually got one that'll talk about her issues. Too many good relationships go to waste because people won't say what's bothering them .

I can't help but think that part of the reason people smoke it is because they're weak-willed and weak-spirited because, let's face it: if you need something like weed or alcohol or drugs to enjoy life then you're not doing something right.

Oh if that isn't the most egotistical, highfalutin, BS rationale about drugs and users I've EVER heard, I don't know what is. Some Family Man you must be, I'd love to see the concentration camp you must run at home with blanketed thoughts like that. I can see a point in there, but you're basically describing the addicts and abusers without even addressing that there are those who simply use as a recreational drug and really don't *need* it or chalk it down as being "something to do". Same goes for alcohol.

It's not egotistical or high falutin bull$h1t...it's fact. I'm a good family man that doesn't run a concentration camp, thank you very little. My kids know that drugs, done recreationally or habitually, will end up ruining your life. They know that "recreational" drugs lead to harder drugs and to associating yourself with people who will, one day, end up paying for their "recreation". The bottom line is that if you use them "recreationally" then you are no better than the addicts themselves. You don't have the will nor the spirit to do without it. Justifying drug use as doing it not out of need but out of desire or just doing it for "something to do" sound idiotic and very childish. Maybe you, and others on this board, need to do the growing up, get away from the teenage angst-ridden activities that were so "cool" when you were 16, and get a family before criticizing mine.

**Update**

First off I'd like to thank everyone here for responding. It was good to get both sides of the issue at hand, and while I might have been offended by certain posters to this thread........everyone influenced my thinking and it really helped.

I took most of the night off after posting. I logged back in to read the rest of the replies then left my apartment and took a walk on the boardwalk.

It did wonders. I agree with what everyone had to say and I felt a little better to see that my thoughts and feelings weren't abnormal or childish.

So later that night I talked with my g/f. I explained to her that I might have been a little obtuse but that I've thought things over. I told her that im flattered that she's come this far in curbing her "habit" just for me and it means a lot to me. I told her that I'll deal with her occasional smoking as long as im not put in a position where it would make me uncomfortable. She said she would never do that to begin with and that she was envious that my dream, since I was a kid, might finally be coming true.

She then said....."Well when you get into the academy I'm going to stop completely. If I had to choose between smoking weed and being with you, I'd stop in a heartbeat. It doesn't mean that much to me."

So all in all it worked out just fine. And the semi "make-up" sex was amazing

Thanks ATOT.

didn't see this yesterday, and haven't read teh replies, but I'll add anyway, as late as it seems

Good update, she seems pretty mature and you seem honest in your issues regarding this. I wouldn't call you a baby in terms of this issue (regarding the OP), b/c you have an honest opinion, shpaed by experience on this matter. The way I see it, smokers come in all varieties. The hibitual users who can't seem to function without it and are useless anyway (deadbeats), the occasional smoker who maintains a balanced social and professional life (The majority of those that I'm aware of ), and those that use it habitualy, but still seem to maintain a stable life...professionaly, anyway...

You have legitimate concern, being that you have a career goal where this could seriously impact that goal. You also show realization that not everyone who smokes is a deadbeat, and may have very different reasons from indulging other than what the "war on drugs" likes to tell us.

Good that she sees you as more important than her need to smoke. It also means that you could be her reason for quitting...which is good and bad.
GL to ya

People are "weak-willed and weak-spirited" because they might puff a couple times a year? Maybe at a concert or beside a bonfire on a summer night?

Give it a rest, choir boy. Maybe you can teach your kids to have an open mind instead of condemning half of society, as you have.

Probably because those aren't illegal. And he's about to become a policeman. Duh.

Please continue drinking the kool-aid and spouting the propaganda you've been fed your whole life. Maybe your kids will grow up more open-minded and less self-righteous than you, but somehow I find that hard to believe.

life is amazing, most people who smoke know that. they simply enjoy the high. its a bonus.
are you going to call adrenaline junkies ignorant because they can't enjoy life? they are doing the same thing: abusing a natural process, and doing extreme things to get a large amount of adrenaline into their body to cause a natural high. guess what, marijuana is a natural high too. just how it gets into your body is a different process. people enjoy life, just people like to have a little gift for themselves to get deeper.
people have different methods for getting in touch with the world. some meditate, some do drugs, some meditate and do drugs. all around the world, ancient civilizations have done all of those things. and they were way more in touch with life than modern civilizations.

you just want an excuse to pride yourself since you don't? do drugs, and what to make yourself believe that everyone else is stupider than you because they might happen to do something illegal.

do you drink? if you do, you're entire argument is void btw.

destrekor, you are one ignorant bastard. The lengths you go to in order to justify smoking pot...a pathetic attempt to justify it as nothing different than meditation, adrenaline sports, et al. Go smoke your bowl and feel good that you are still "cool"...the bottom line is that you are weak. Yes, I pride myself that I have never once smoked a cigarette nor a joint and have never done a line of coke or taken a hit of heroin. Yes, I pride myself in having the strength of self to not conform to idiotic tendencies. From day 1 of my decision not to partake I've enjoyed life and haven't needed, like you apparently, something more to get the full enjoyment. Yes, I do see you and anyone else that "enjoys" recreational drugs as morons. I don't have to associate with you nor anyone like you and I enjoy that immensely. Go enjoy your drugs so that you can get more in touch with life. I'll speed right by you and wave to you as I pass you by.
