It's not egotistical or high falutin bull$h1t...it's fact. I'm a good family man that doesn't run a concentration camp, thank you very little. My kids know that drugs, done recreationally or habitually, will end up ruining your life. They know that "recreational" drugs lead to harder drugs and to associating yourself with people who will, one day, end up paying for their "recreation". The bottom line is that if you use them "recreationally" then you are no better than the addicts themselves. You don't have the will nor the spirit to do without it. Justifying drug use as doing it not out of need but out of desire or just doing it for "something to do" sound idiotic and very childish. Maybe you, and others on this board, need to do the growing up, get away from the teenage angst-ridden activities that were so "cool" when you were 16, and get a family before criticizing mine.

by the way, the only reason they can "know" this, is if they've tried themselves. Following yoru decree, w/o any experience themselves, is not knowledge.

I'm guessing your only exposure to people who use drugs at any level is straight-up addicts, and most likely from only what you see in the media.

True knowledge comes from experience. You seem to have been force-fed one perspective your whole life...which is fine; just don't confuse that with true knowledge

My brother in law is a cop. When he finds a personal stash of marijuana on someone, and they have done nothing else, he just dumps it out and lets them go. He knows as I do the laws against cannabis are stupid, and those people arent worth his time.

It is unfortunate that her family chooses to participate in the activities they do. Their involvement in your life will have serious ramifications down the road not only regarding your current career choice but also with future children you and your gf may decide to have. I hope your extended family will have their acts cleaned up before they get the opportunity to negatively impact your kids lives. Personally, I wouldn't have my kids spending time with grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins who does what her parents and family members do and I would let them and her know exactly why if that situation ever arose.

Your children will inevitably learn from their friends, as all children do. Just accept now that you will fail to indocterinate them with your ignorance. The problem I have with your argument is that there's only one way, as you see it. You try drugs, you end up on hard drugs and ruin your life. You can't see that there's a middle ground where you can enjoy the softer drugs such as marijuana, and a further possibility of trying marijuana maybe a couple of times in your life, and not feeling particularly bothered about it either way.

It's the same as alcohol. It's stupid to say "as soon as you start drinking you're on the road to becoming a hardline alcoholic and dying of liver failure", when there are people who drink semi-regularly and in moderation, and people who maybe have the odd drink at a party. This is a pretty easy concept to grasp - things aren't as hard and fast as you make out.

I have friends who choose to smoke weed. I choose not to. I also choose not to be in situations where I will go to jail for someone else's choice, hense I won't let you in my car if you have weed. The last thing I need is to go to jail because you had pot on you.

Thankfully all my friends are standup guys, one even told me (I was staying in his house at the time) that if cops searched the house for whatever reason while he was gone to tell them all the stuff was his and not to try to defend him.
