am is far better than fm, you can really tell who the young children are from reading this thread If $10 walkmans could do it in the 80s, why can't $400 mp3 players now? I just don't get it. I've been on the fence for months now about buying one, an AM tuner would make the decision for me on an otherwise good player like the iRiver.

Someone give this person a beer!

Also, you can have a receiver with better range than any FM receiver and make it portable.

A USB linked AM tuner would rock!

Cheers!

Hurry the bottle, mama
It's grapefruit wine
Kick off your high heeled sneakers
It's party time

The girls don't seem to care what's on
As long as they play till dawn
Nothing but blues and Elvis
And somebody else's favorite song

Give us some funked-up music
She treats you nice
Feed us some hungry reggae
She loves you twice

The girls don't seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right
No static at all, no static at all
FM--no static at all

Give us some funked-up music
She treats you nice
Feed us some hungry reggae
She loves you twice

The girls don't seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right
No static at all, no static at all
FM--no static at all

Cheers!

Space is at more of a premium....hey wait a second, where'd you get a Walkman for 10 bucks in the 80's anyway? Were you one of those lkids with a RCA instead of a Sony? *points, laughs, steals lunch money* World's a noisier place electronicly speaking as well, which further drives people away from AM, further reducing the benefit of including it. Still, I wish it was there too since the only thing I ever listen to on FM is NPR, rest of the day is spent on AM.

What would be an acceptable substitute for lack of AM would be timed recording to mp3 (not 8khz voice recording) so I could leave the player hooked up to a good radio and listen to the show later. Lot handier than using a computer to record and then copying over, not to mention the noise of the computer itself. The Xclef player (yet another iPod like player, 40/80gig) can record mp3 from 32-320, but no timed recording from the reviews I read. Hmm, I'll email them to see if they can add that to the next model.

I am sure there is some sort of attachment, assuming you have the removable reciever? that will let you plug headphones into it, no?

nope. i listen to the radio to hear music, not talk.
Then you must pay for your radio. Even FM has tons of talk shows.
