that sounds hot

btw, I do it that way too. And I call it Army style. Sometimes I'll be a little more correct and call it Military style.

21NOV2009, 21NOV09. Completely unambiguous, everyone knows what it means.

i store all our old docs/ files named like this, so i can query against year and month if i really need to, or just month.

i only care when it is used in filenames or other sortable lists.

they should all be named YYYYMMDD

mmddyyyy is the proper way. When you have 11 carrier fleets you can decide how it's done.

BTW now that I see how those 11 carrier fleets do their date I have to say I may change mine in written correspondence because it would be hella badass.

Wow.. 5 pages long. Now there's real proof that nerds will talk about such a topic for 5 pages and more.

2 pages for me. Real nerds know that there are different page options.

Fuck. That makes me a nerd.

I only use Unix time, it's unambiguous, at least for now.

Happy 1259267386 everyone!

Oops, I mean 1259267387
1259267388
1259267389
...

It actually works better.

"-885740400, a time which will live in infamy..."
"Shake down 283996809. Cool kids never have the time..."
"Party like it's 915148800"

I think we have a winner.

Just as an errant five year old will often do things wrong to spite, so does the United States. There there, we know you can do it how you want, special child.

OP why do you keep making and posting in threads that are very specifically related to how unique America is compared to the rest of the world? Is it because you've realized that a place like New Zealand has no foreseeable future and you're really an Americophile?

Do you have the cajones of becoming an American? It's fine, I understand. Give me a call and I'll find somebody to employ you and sponsor you for a work visa.

Oh yes, someone with his qualifications would have no trouble finding a top-flight job in either the food service or housekeeping industries.

Ehh, I prefer "YYYY/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS" as the written format. Or just YYYY/MM/DD for dates not needing time.

Either 20091127 or 27 Nov 2009 for me. It irritates the shit out of my family and some coworkers (who are typical date-sheep and use 11-27-2009 like all the other stupid americans). The folks I run into during the course of my day who do understand the right way to do things are surprised that a stupid american can do it right. (I work with yachties - mostly europeans, south africans, aussies and kiwis. ) Yup I'm a stupid american too.

yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss <-bigger on the left, smaller on the right; that's how numbers are supposed to work.

speaking of dates, the mailing address is the opposite too. we go from small to big, whereas other countries go big to small - which does make sense btw.

personally, i like month/day/year just because i'm so used to it. but year/month/day does make more sense, unless you think writing time in minute:sec:hour makes sense as well.... well, i suppose we do say half past 2 or some such...
