Same here more or less....

My wife is very goal oriented, serious most of the time, and good with organizational skills...however she just is horrid with people, having a good time and knowing how to put real life situations into perspective...but then again she is a scientist/chemist so I somewhat expect that

I am more laid back, better with people, and feel that we both compliment each other well even though we are rather different. I think if I were with someone that was just like me I would be screwed in 40 - 50 years financially and emotionally, and if she were with someone just like her she would be bored out of her mind. I think what matters is that you both share the same goals but can take two different paths to get there...we both want a nice house, at most two kids and good jobs, now if I had no motivation to do anything or she was too demanding then I could see a problem.

I don't know if I agree with this 100%, I have known many couples like this, heck they even had the same career, but they also ended up fighting or divorced because they got so bored of their lives with each other since they did the same things and had nothing interesting to talk about.....I think if you are talking about the extreme end of the spectrum then sure, opposites are a bad match..but a few differences IMHO are a good thing.

to reach a lower energy state, like in chemistry. Big atoms fill in the gaps of another big atom that is quite different, you could say an opposite. Once they share and bond via their nice electrical arrangement, each atom gets smaller.

(I only took chem in college, I'm no chemist so pardon)

But the same is true for men and women, I see it all the time and experience it. Each can't handle trying to deal with the world on their own so they seek each other out, bond, and reach a lower energy state where they no longer care about the wonders of the world and fall into an arrangement of complacent contentment, ever convinced that they are happy in life and need nothing more.

Only in america. We seem to find the need for conflict so great that we go out and cause it in other countries as well.

Being similar is suppose to be a good indicator of relationship success. Being identical isn't ideal of course, and the same thing I read about that stated that complimentary differences were a good thing. Like you getting your wife to have fun, and her getting you to do some damn work!

I notice that opposites don't so much attract each other in nature, but rather balance themselves out - opposites are deemed as opposites because of their physical contrast to one another, and usually have some sort predetermined relationship as it is, IMO (so they don't necessarily 'attract', but balance each other out in that relationship).
