Why do people bother to paint their houses brwon?

This is extremely far from a new trend, but why do people spend time/effort/money to make the inside of their houses brown? Mocha, chocolate, whatever they wanna call it. 'It's neutral. It matches with anything' someone will say. ...but everything else in your meticulously decorated house is still goddamn BROWN, isn't it.

If I'm gonna be bothered to paint something, I will do it all up in your face, dammit.

Apparently gray is a super popular interior color now too. I thought that was dumb until I saw some pictures of it on Houzz. Not bad.

warm earth tones and earthy-pastels seem to be the big trend.
It just happens that about a billion different colors in those two categories happen to be considered various shades of brown. I mean, you have everything from nearly white sand to the deepest shades of brown.

If I chose any browns, it would be a light color, unless I was also going to be and make it a real rustic-looking room, then if going with paint, it'd be a dark shade and a lot of dark natural woods would need to be in that room too. Kind of like a study, or a room/basement with a bar.

My walls have always been a sand type of color in most of the rooms. My family room is Mustard though.

My exterior favorite is yellow. When I can afford a mansion I will make it Coquina.

I have no white walls in any room in my two story house. I have brown shades throughout the house with the use of a dark brown stain and/or light brown (sandstone) paint with faux finishes in the kitchen, living room and family room. I even have some ceilings with a dark brown that also used patches of paper. Looks great, but impossible to match the faux finish wall gets damaged.

I have nice neutral colors in my house, none of which are brown, and not a single white wall or ceiling. My house was built in the late 20's so it has an 8' long galley pantry off the kitchen w/wainscotting on one side so very little wall space, and I painted that a crazy bright orange to match a Fiestaware mug. It's awesome.

The exterior/facade?

The thread seems to be focused on interior walls.
However, exterior colors is also a very good topic.


Purple seems an odd choice - but I've definitely seen more than one white house. In terms of actual white houses, white sand/adobe is my favorite (painted?) if I had to only have white and live with it. Rare to even see that construction style out here though. However, similar is the insulated concrete form homes - though most go with the regular framed-house appearance.

Also, another style I've seen more than a few times, like the exact opposite of the white with purple trim: blue with white trim. I like that - with that right shade of blue.
