Why Do People Dislike Mormoms?

First, let me start off by saying that I myself am NOT Mormom but was just wondering why people continually put down Mormoms... What are some valid reasons for not like Mormoms and/or their religion? I have searched the net, and I come across a lot of hate sites referring to this topic, and I have started to do a little reseach myself to see what is "wrong" with the Mormom religion. I am curious to hear what all of you think, and what your views are about the religion. Likes/Dislikes possibly with factual back up and just general information from either side of the argument.

Once again I am not Mormom, I am just curious why people seem to put down this religion because I'm sure their are valid reasons and "problems" with their beliefs, so post up your thoughts.

You can dislike Mormons. There are no "Mormonophobes". It's those "other" people you can't dislike. It's not politically correct.

Well, I think most religions are ridiculous, but most of them hide the fact that they're full of sh!t pretty well. Not the mormons, however. They are very open about letting us know how f*ckin' stupid their religion is by coming door to door and telling us about it.

Do you have any proof of that statement or are you just wanted to get in a bash on people that you probably don't know, have never met and know nothing about what they really stand for? Are you just jumping on a bandwagon of hate without any knowledge of who it is you are hating?

Proof is abundant in the history of the history of the Mormons. They were they were villified, killed, run out of town, etc. by other Christians. It is quite well documented. I have also heard both Methodists and Baptists tell me of how evil these people are for having corrupted their "pure" beliefs. Things such as blasphemy, false prophets, fornicators, etc. are commonly used by these people in reffering to the Mormons.

And sir/madam, you are an ass to jump to the conclusion that I hate any of these people. I believe it takes a very small mind to think that believing people are fools and/or hippocrates is the same thing as hating them. Your comment has not made me hate you even though I now have a less than glowing opinion of your logic skills.

There may be hope for you yet. That was on the whole a decent post. You put some information in to back up the one line bash that you posted earlier. A few more details on the beliefs of the Mormons and their persecution would have been helpful but I'm sure you will continue to improve.

The one flaw that I see is that you assume that historical feeling automatically apply to now. Simply because Christians disagreed with Mormons in the past does not lead to the conclusion that they still hate and vilify them today. Having ?heard?a Baptist and a Methodist say something against them does not mean that all Baptists and Methodists are ?funnymentals? (your word) nor does it mean that they all hate Mormons. I would assume with your superior logic skills that you were well aware of those facts and just chose to ignore them for some reason.

I am an old fart and have discussed religion with multitudes of people over the decades. While it is certainly true that I have not conversed with all the Methodists and Baptists or done a statistical analysis of the results, I long ago formed the opinion that the more fundamentalist the beliefs of Christians, the less tolerant they were in general. This conclusion has been re-affirmed many times with subsequent conversations. Many of these people seem to reserve a special revulsion for the Mormons. According to them, Hell will be filled with these dispicable corruptors of true Christianity.

I don't like it when people turn up on my doorstep and preach the benefits of religion. I have nothing against mormons, jehovah witnesses, catholics or any other religion you care to name of. What I do take objection to is harassment.

You're full of crap. Do a google search on godmakers. It was written by baptists who wanted to bash mormons. No apostle---No historian. That book and the movie was a freakin joke full of misrepresentations. It is so bad as to be laughable. Anyone who would use that to judge Mormons isn't worth the time to correct.

What does the quote in his signature have to do with religion? I feel that most religion is pretty ridiculous too and if I started discounting what everybody who was religious said, I would have a lot less to listen to. Martin Luther King Jr. preached a lot of stuff, one thing happened to be a belief in god. The axiom "A broken clock is at least two times a day" is pretty appropriate here, except for the fact that Martin Luther King was hardly a "broken clock" and was pretty dead on with whatever he said.
