i never wanted to install itunes...because i was using (still do) winamp for all of my music needs. itunes is just there for my ipod and nothing else. its an "okay" piece of software. it was definitely NOT designed for windows in mind. i wish they would make a straight up from the ground version of it, and maybe even use the windows theme instead of apple's theme.

I hate any program that puts itself everywhere on my system without asking. I don't want it running in the system tray, I don't want it in the background when it isn't running, I don't want it connecting to internet when I select it. I just want something that plays music.

I hate iTunes just because it forces me to install QuickTime and also isn't really closed after I close it (still a running process in Task Manager). That's enough to make the software suck for me. Also, Winamp's Media Library seems to do everything iTunes does just fine.

I have iTunes, but I only use it for adding songs to my iPod. However, I don't keep all my music in iTunes (because some of it, I don't want to listen to). I manage my music myself and use foobar to listen to music.

The only problem I've had with iTunes, is not being able to add some songs to it after adding them to my WMP library and doing a 'get album info' and changing the album info on the songs.

I fixed the issue because I had copied the songs to my brother's computer before messing with them in WMP.

Bloated, skips a lot with other processes going on (while other mp3 players i have do not, aka winamp), always has ipodhelp other random thing running in background even when the program is not in use.
they try to force quicktime on you (yes, i know there is a stand alone downloader)

those are my personal reasons. i like the functionalities it has though.

What annoys me the me the most about itunes and apple software in general, is that many of the 'features' are created for apple's benefit, not mine. It constantly phones home to give apple stats about my music playing. It forces me to install both itunes and quicktime (can't install them individually). It puts a system tray icon so it can phone home and i have to look at their logo all the time. It deliberatly does not support many music formats so I use the formats apple wants me to use.

None of these issues are really that much of an inconvenience, but they have zero benefit to me the consumer, and exist soley for apple's benefit.

I use foobar2k, which is created with the goal of being as useful as possible to the user and nothing else. Same with Media Player classic, which I use for video. There are no ulterior motives with these apps.

The biggest quirks I had with it (on Mac):

- Library? Files? Playlists? I just want to drag and drop files onto there, and I want iTunes to track them if I reorganize them (something winamp doesn't do).
- Do you have mp3's that are supposed to go right into the next one? (Pink Floyd albums, electronic mixes) Well... iTunes has the crossfade option, which will blend the last part of one into the first part of the other (and always mistime it), or you can have it pause for 0.5 seconds before it goes into the next song. Why can't iTunes just go straight into the next song like Winamp does???

On a PC:

- Ugly, bloated
- Don't want Quicktime
- I'll use ephPod for iPod loading
- Winamp Lite > iTunes

I don't use FLAC or OGG formats so that part isn't a big deal for me.

I really can't tell a (quality) difference between well-encoded 256kbps mp3 and CD, and I have a pretty top-notch audio system (Sennheiser HD580 headphones, Dynaudio monitors, MOTU Firewire soundcard). *shrug* saves space for me and mp3's are more convenient. I'm already up to 90gb of mp3's, and I haven't gone through all my CD's yet =X
