Well, Hubris, the point is we went to that Orthodox wedding and found out by observing, things about this faith we never knew before. She didn't like the anti-woman part she saw....I didn't much care for it either. Her attitude toward Jews in general, was changed for the worse. This is why that one woman and her newly acquired view, answers the question "Why do people hate Jews". Get it?

Here's another thing I learned at that wedding. I never knew before that day about alcoholism and the Jewish faith. Before the wedding, all the men gathered in a room (women in another room). Everyone of these men was drinking hard liquor like there was no tomorrow. I swear every man in the whole place was drunk before the service started. (the women also, from what my GF told me). This is supposed to be a religous service? Everyone mostly drunk? Sorry if I cannot see anything about this whole scene I like.
It's a custom from the European Jewry called a Tish. The men all sit around a table, the fathers sign a document for their children to be wed, the mothers of the children break a plate together (tradition...), then the men all have some hard liquor and sing for a bit. It's a joyous occasion. It's not alcoholism to have a some alcohol now and again. I can't believe you would equate alocholism with perhaps getting a little bit drunk, probably not even that.

By the way, I find it surprising that the women had anything to drink. Also, it's not a religious service, it's a wedding, a joyous celebration joining to people. There are religious aspects of it, but for the most part it's a celebration.

Also, no, I don't "get it." Just because the women are not liberal and have different traditions and customs than you have does not answer the question of why some people hate Jews. By the way, I'm conservative, I don't particularly like the "women's role" that the Orthodox Jews maintain, but it's not my place to say I hate them for it or criticize them for it just because I don't agree with it.

You did not prove me wrong, you cannot, and still you continue to argue... that is not anything but stupidity...
Showing that your argument contains informal fallacies isn't a way to disprove your argument? Man, you really are obtuse. How old are you? :frown:

Well kiddo (so it seems) i am 32 years old, you did not SHOW me anything, to SHOW me anything would be to SHOW me actual FACTS...
Well, you're very simple-minded for your age.

Why would anyone want to engage you in an argument when you have already stated that you will blatantly ignore any sources or "historical documents" that someone might cite? That is so childish.

Is it, why? because i think that those documents are just stories, that were made up by people? can you actually PROVE me wrong? no? then what are we arguing about?

You want me to present an argument void of evidence, and I will not do that.

If your GF didn't like what she saw at the wedding, maybe she should have attempted to read up on Orthodoxy before deciding Judaism was sexist. If she even tried to dig beneath the surface, she would have learned of the Jewish concept of Sniut, or modesty. This is why the Woman was dressed like that. There are many ways in which males have to be Sniut, just not in that particular, more visible way. If she looked even further, she would have found that women are the complete equals of men in Judaism, and are such in virtually every facet of Judiasm. The seperation of male and female, is not due to inequality, but rather to sniut.

Also, I do not like your generalizing of Jewish alcohol intake. Let me ask you, did you ever see that co-worker of yours hung over at work (not counting the day after a Jewish holiday)? The answer, I would likely bet, is no. Jews celebrate simchas (joyus occasions) and holidays with alcohol, it is the preffered way according to the Talmud. I have seen many a Jew get totally hammered on Simchas Torahor Shabbos, only to be totally sober and fully competent the other 6 days of that week.

Besides Bluefront, I have seen you post in most of these threads defending the anti-Semites on this board. I remember when there was the thread for the Chassid who was tragically murdered by a skinhead, you were defending the two guys who were essentially "rah, rah, skinheads" and "Boo, Jews."
Thought this deserved repeating.

EDIT: And how exactly does one present an argument without citing sources anyways?

I did not say that, present an argument citing VALID sources and not storybooks... if you can... the so called "historical documents" are just make believe... to me...

aphex, I would bet it was just sarcasm. I have noticed true bigots always post in bunches, and don't use the rolling eyes icon when making a statement that would just be sarcasm to someone who is not biased. When someone posts things repeatedly, then you can deduce, sort of like how Al Sharpton can't say just one sentence and never shuts up.

I disagree. Al Sharpton has said only one long run on sentence. It started with his first word and is still going on today.

I'm going to go with "Because the Jews think they are the Elite in the Eyes of God" for 300.

Basically they're saying everyone else is not chosen. I can't imagine why that might piss non-Jews off...

First off all, uncouth, we believe that G-d considers us His chosen people, it is not that we consider ourselves that. Also, just becuase many of us believe that does not mean we lack respect for other religions and the rights of others, and it is certainly not a reason to justify unbrildled hatred, as you seem to think it could be.

Hey, someone in another thread that Blacks are the only ones that get bashed on ATOT. We're building quite a hate club over here.

Let's increase the love, people.

I don't hate Jews. I am people.

Second of all, Passner, I'm half-Jewish so save your lecture and criticism of my anti-semitism for someone more deserving...

And to answer the question again, it's quite easy to hate people who do well. The Jews are incredibly successful and have the whole elitist "Chosen People" thing going on. To some, I'm sure, this rubs off as being egotistical and arrogant which seem like the breeding grounds for hate.

First of all I wasn't criticising you, if you notice, I used a different tone with you than I did with SnapIT and Bluefront: I was simply dissecting what you were saying and saying that that I feel your reasoning to be a generalization, and overall, a poor excuse. No insults intended.

Also, just because someone is Jewish (or in your case half-Jewish) does not mean they can't be an anti-Semite. There is something called a self-loathing Jew, which is essentially the same thing as a Jewish anti-Semite. For an example look at Bobby Fischer. I am not saying you are a bigot in any way, altough I wish you would tone down this generalization of a "chosen people" attitude", I am simply saying that Jews can be anti-Semites.

I am white and have a the hair, nose, lips, ghetto ass of many black people. I think some interracial sexual activities slipped in somewhere on my mom's side (she is from Tennessee).

i don't hate jews.

lots of people hate lots of others.
some personal, some national.

as far as why people have hatred towards another..
i'd say number one cause would be lack of understanding.
people fear what they don't know.

Jews have been discriminated for a long long time. Hey, look at how they are portrayed in Shakespeare's works.

As for the current views against them in the middle east, <sarcasm> I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with their religious state installed by the US against our own constitution, on land that didn't currently belong to them, and their own discriminating actions and views towards Muslims. </sarcasm>
