i really can't figure out why people hate walmart and want it dead.

1. it offers low prices on most stuff and frankly many people can't afford more.

2. emplyos many people.

3. Since when is choice BAD.

in general thius is inspired by the "other thread" but also becasue in Austin (where i live) there is a major controversy over building a walmart (supposedly the largest one).

also as far as customer service is concerned i've never had a bad experience so far and also you get what you pay for.

Not my personal beliefs, but those who hate walmart generally do because:
- they use cheap stuff from outside countries leaving many american companies unable to survive (unemployment)
- their business practices are pretty bullyish and very cutthroat compared to other companies
- they completely ignore the general population when they don't want a walmart in their backyard, making it blissfully obvious they don't give a shit about anybody

Where is Austin are they planning to build the largest walmart?

I dont hate Walmart, but some of the annoying things to me are:
1 - Too crowded, and not the best of crowd usually
2 - The employees never have any clue whats going on, they dont know where things are even if they are assigned to their 2 aisles of a category

But recently, some of their tech deals have been pretty good, like on cheap brand TVs, HD-DVD players, etc. I would shop there for most things for good deals besides clothes

I  the $5 dvd bin at walmart. And they now also have a bunch of dvds for $3.88...new ones popping up all the time.

I hate walmart because it's a magnet for all of society's worst. Unwed mothers with 14 kids in tow, the redneck families, people with no intelligence, people with no hygiene, people with no class. I will gladly pay more to shop in an environment free of those rejects. I suppose if anything I should thank walmart for drawing that ilk away from the other stores.

This is worthy of watching, saw it on cable recently.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0473107/

Ironically, since wages are so low, many times the only place that employees can afford to shop is Wal Mart.

It's an interesting documentary. But as most documentaries tend to do, it tells "a truth" and not necessarily the whole truth.

Its true that I shop there, but I wish I had the cash to shop elsewhere. I still pay the least there compared to the other stores around here.

However, when you shop at Wal-Mart, you are buying COMMUNISM!!

You watched that tv special too eh?

Everything you state here, I believe. Especially bullying tactics!
I still shop there, but only if I need something quick, and if it's on a Tues/Wed at 1pm! Fuck Weekends!

I don't mind the store itself so much, its more the majority of the customers I can't stand.

Wal-Mart hires illegal immigrants, and pays them less than minimum wage. By importing cheap products from other countries, they drive American industry and retailers (that can't match its massive buying power and ability to manipulate prices) out of business. Any crappy jobs they provide for a handful of unskilled workers is more than offset by the people laid off when they drive American businesses into bankruptcy.

Choice? Wal-Mart eliminates choice from the market. A completely free market only works when you don't care about the people who inevitably get screwed- businesses like Wal-Mart are the reason why government intervention into the private sector is sometimes necessary. By killing any chance for fair competition, they keep the power of choice from ever reaching the American consumer.

On the other hand, they've done a great job in recent years to improve their environmental record. No company is all bad.

I've never been in one, or purchased anything from their online store, and I never will.

I love Wal-Mart. When they first came to my town some 25 years or so ago, we didn't really have a store like it. The prices and selection were good. Back then, before they were the "big evil empire", people still bitched about them. Doesn't matter to me. If people insist on paying more elswehere, more power to them. I like to save money.

Walmart ran out 3 of my favourite small stores in the neighbourhood. So in my personal opinion, walmart can fuck off and die in a motherfucking fire as far as I'm concerned, those fucking bastards. :|

Wal-mart makes a lot of the lower-tiered employees wait a long time before offering
health insurance and then it's crap when they do qualify. End result is when people
get sick they wind up at the ER and the rest of the taxpayers get to pay for indigent
care but hey, the profit margins are so much better and the shareholders are making
more$$ and that's all that matters right?.

Ignoring business practices, I don't like shopping there. I hate how they put pallets of junk in the main aisles and how the lines are at least five people deep most of the time. Plus, I don't see much difference in prices on the stuff I buy. Target just has a better "buying experience." It just seems more relaxed at a Target for whatever reasons, be it the open aisles, the warmer lighting, the people, etc. I can shop at a Target. At Wal-Mart, I just want to get the hell out of there.

i dont hate walmart per se, i hate the shopping experience at walmart.

lines are long as hell, people who shop there are scum -- parking lot is an absolute shopping cart jungle... carts littered everywhere... they shove them and ding cars.. ive gotten honked and stuff thrown at me while walking because people in their 1998 Z71 truck wanted to speed by out of the parking lot.

shopping experience at target is nicer. plus pretty young girls shop at target, opposed to overweight sweats-and-tank-top wearing behemoths at walmart

Walmart is evil and bad for the economy.

In the dystopian world of the future that walmart envisions, everyone works for walmart and everyone uses walmart for everything.

There is no industry they are not wanting to invade and conquer.

Grocery, pharmacy, automotive, banking, automobile sales, how long until they want to build houses?

At lease microsofts vision of domination is kept to computers and gaming. They don't wanna sell me bananas by xbox live and open a checking account for me.

No matter what you people think, Walmart still has one of the biggest, and somewhat more successful than others business strategy. I agree about the class it targets, but most people with common sense would go buy something there for cheaper. If a dvd player is on sale, why would I go to best buy to buy the same for 30 more... even if I could afford to waste that money.

1. It's the cool thing to do.
2. It makes them feel like they care for the community and fellow man, though they are really just elitists in sheep's clothing.
3. They gain a false sense of satisfaction for supporting mom-and-pop stores, seeing those same mom-and-pop stores do much less for the economy (higher pricing, limited selection, etc) and much less for their employees (no healthcare, not retirement plans, etc) than Walmart.

uh...

1. A store doesn't garner t his much hatred just because its fun.
2. An elitest because we do not like a company which practices their tactics?
3. It's not just mom and pop stores. A walmart goes into your neighborhood and you can gurantee your Fred Meyer and other stores like that will be going out of business. Why? Because Fred Meyer doesn't bend their employees over to give "always low prices". How can you claim that mom and pop stores don't offer health care or retirement? Thats a per company basis and to make that claim is absurd. I am a consultant for a company (a small flower shop) that offers their full time employees full benefits.

Employees of walmart aren't paid very much, they used to receive ZERO health care until they were forces to a couple years ago. So what you have is a company that sends other companies out of business who actually pay their employees well and their employees aren't as much or not at all a drain on our system as walmart's are. On top of that they are a huge importer of shit products from other countries, making them are a big contributer to the job problem in the US.

So, we don't hate walmart because its the cool thing to do.
