I have a F350 diesel with 38's blah blah blah but It gets better mileage (25MPG) than most cars!!! Certainly better than my Lincoln and almost as much as wife Ford 500 (which is basically a new Taurus). Has nothing to do w/ da penis it's about hauling shit, towing shit etc. Normally like 80% of the time I drive a car though because you can't park anywhere.

You don't fall into the category of truck owners I'm referring to. Here in socal we have a special type of truck owner commonly known as the "Bro." Easily the most egotistical and unintelligent subculture around here.

I had a Bro turn on his "rear" fog lights on me on the highway some years back. That was really annoying, especially since his bumper was the same offset as my windshield.

Yeah, I tend to knock out a wall and drywall it once a month just for kicks.
In the last six months, although I know I'm forgetting something:

30 sheets of drywall
drywall lift
cement planer
cement grinder
couch
fridge
power washer
3 trips to the dump with construction debris
1 trip to the metal salvage yard
yard of topsoil
snowblower
assorted furniture
100 10 ft. 2X4's
1 pro pack of door trim 15 ft. long
kitchen table and chairs

And my son borrowed the truck to move somebody.

Some of us like to pretend we know how to swing a hammer and throw some drywall mud. I'm retired, so the truck isn't driven to work everyday.

Unless you need it for work and carry lumber around or something, I see no purpose to pickup trucks. They are stupid, ugly and usually the drivers are of a certain "persuasion". I see these a lot in downtown metro areas, and just am annoyed at them.

I can understand why one would want a large luxurious SUV (like an Escalade or decked out Sequoia, etc), and I fall into this camp myself. But why would you want to essentially chop the back half off and leave it open to the cold weather and snow outside? How are you going to transport people around? Doesn't make sense to me.

I own one solely to piss off people like you. Seems like it is working to perfection.

dumb thread. why a truck? really? are you that dumb? they haul things, yucky things, heavy things, dirty things, things that are tall..things that will not fit into an suv.

5% use them.
15% might use them once a year, maybe.
80% are compensating for something.

At least that's how it is here, where ca. 50% of the vehicles are halftons.

Odds are 100% that you pulled those stats straight out of your ass and don't have a clue how P/U drivers in your area use their trucks. And certainly 80% don't share your need to compensate for a small johnson maybe you should change your screenname to 22short

Frankly I agree with you to a certain extent until the bolded part which makes you simply a hypocrite. Large SUV's just piss me off more.

I use the bed of my truck constantly including 30 sheets of drywall in the last month.

If you ever got a quote for drywalling a room you'd know why you do it yourself.

This. I helped my dad finish the basement of his house and made multiple trips between carrying lumber, sheet rock, and carpeting. And your statement can be looked at the other way, too. For everyone who has done it themselves knows why quotes are so high with it!

I'd never pay someone to do it for me, though. I'm definitely glad I'm following the DIY style of my dad. I use my truck all the time, and parents use theirs, too. I'm from MN, though, and not in the city so I don't have the same view on trucks as the city folk.

I have a clue how P/U drivers in my area use their trucks. Most of them use them as mommy wagons or to haul their solitary ass to and from their white collar jobs 5 days a week. Then they spend the weekends polishing them and/or adding big lift kits and slathering a gallon of armor-all on the giant off-road tires that make more noise on the freeway than a Harley with straight pipes.

Some of them may have a camper they tow out to the desert once a year for a week or two. I'm still trying to figure out who justifies spending $80,000 on an RV only to store it alongside your house for 50 weeks out of the year when you can rent them for FAR less money...and they say Prius owners are stupid.

Some people actually use trucks for work but I'd say it is less than 50% of truck owners...at least it is here in SoCal.

Why don't you just hire someone to do it for you? After all, ATOT is full of wealthy people who own their own businesses and thus have no time for such trivial things as Do-It-Yourself.

Seriously, how often are you buying stainless steel appliances? How often are you installing hardwood floors? Everyone I know has done it once per home they owned, and they own that home for several years. Much better to just rent a truck when you need it.

Why would I hire someone to do something I can do? I'm not lazy like that and I like to learn new things and do them myself. I like to do home projects and I have a complete shop (woodworking). Having a truck allows me to transport lumber and sheet goods. If I need to buy 3000 sqft of tigerwood hardwood floors and bring it home - no problem! It allows me to pick up furniture, large toys and things that you normally wouldn't be able to with a car. We've been fixing up our house and it's been so good to have a truck. My wife even uses it sometimes. She'll take it to work to do things. I've transported things for co-workers or picked things up for work. I can help family members when they need it. Not to mention it was a huge help when we moved a few years ago. I was able to move the majority of my house with my truck because we were close enough to do so.

For me it's been a great resource to have.

A lot of people may own trucks to transport things like 4 wheelers, boats, motorcycles and things like that. They may also go camping and such. So they don't look like Work trucks with a beat up bed, but they're only using them on weekends. When you can only afford one mode of transportation, you may need to get a truck to do those things and still use as a daily driver.

My house was built in 1994, it is a 4 bedroom 3 bath, 2,200 sq ft house. My wife and one son live in this house with me so we have no plans to add on nor have we done any additions. I did build a nice patio cover on the back of the house about 8-9 years ago. Otherwise, my home improvements over the years have consisted of painting or replacing bathroom fixtures which is easily accomplished with my Nissan Maxima.

Besides, they rent trucks at Lowes and Home Depot for $20/hr if I need to carry anything large the 2 miles back to my house.

And one of these days you'll figure out SoCal is a land of altered reality, inhabited mostly by idiots, so whatever you've observed there probably doesn't apply to the rest of the country. In our family, we have a minivan for hauling people and a pick-up for hauling things, and both get used extensively for their respective purposes. And no, the truck isn't jacked-up or anything - that's just silly, and only makes it that much harder to load.

Not true at all. There are many good people here and I'd still rather live here than any of the flyover states in this country.

I don't care if you have a pickup truck. I'm just saying that for me, it is something I have little to no use for. I don't agree with those who say things like, "I'm a homeowner and a homeowner needs a pickup truck" because it is complete bullshit.

Their uses never cease to amaze: pulling stuff, throwing crap in the back, yardwork shenanigans. Plus you don't look like a certain "gaysuasion" like you do in an suv. Hauling mulch rules.

I drive a Combine Harvester, just in case I want to take in this years wheat crop. It's nice to know I can just drive into a field and reap a few tons without having to hire one.

I don't really disagree, because they think they need a pickup truck as home owner. I mean, they really don't "need" one, but they probably just want one.

Who cares? Don't want one? Don't buy one. People own trucks because they need one, want one, or both.

GFY if you don't like it. It's their goddamn money.

I don't like it when they put these giant lifts on them. Cops should pull people over for that shit and write them up. It isn't legal.

Stupidity is to be critically blasted, whether or not its your money or not.

There ARE some people who own trucks because they think they need one, but they don't. They really don't want one either, because they'd rather a nice Bimmer. But they still have one. That's stupid.

Seems like a law enforcement problem, not a truck problem. And agreed.

Who are you to access what a person needs? I've never met anyone who after having a truck says, "Well shit, I should have bought a BMW instead." Does that person even need a BMW?
