since most english swear words are anglo-saxon words that the normans deemed uncouth after conquering england, shouldn't they saying be "pardon my old english" or "pardon my anglisc"?

The whole thing irritates me. Say what you mean, and never apologize, especially a fake apology like 'pardon my French'. Instead of going through verbal gymnastics, pick a different word.

These words were once used to describe french postcards and outlasted the original use.

Why are certain words bad to say? I can't say I want to fuck you but I can say I want to bang you and yet they mean the same thing. Remember when battlestar galactica used the word frack instead of fuck. I use that often still.

As to why say "excuse my french" because the french language was considered by the english to be vulgar.

Because certain situations require a certain type of word, those words exist.

And when you say them in the appropriate circumstance, it actually has a measurable effect on your brain, lighting up your amygdala.

In other words, to Caveman Thebobo, "Fuck, it's a sabertooth tiger!" is a different sentence with different import than "it's a sabertooth tiger!"

I never understand why anyone hears a particular word and just simply gets butt-hurt over... a word.... and a slang word at that.

"WAH WAH I don't want to hear that word! It makes me butt-hurt". Nevermind the fact that different words have different meanings depending on the culture. For instance, if you call someone a c*nt here you will get a woman that is going to awfully butt-hurt for no apparent reason. If someone calls you a c*nt in England, it's basically a friendly way of calling someone stupid.

If someone ever says "Please don't say that word" then you basically just yelled out-loud "I'm a fucking retard, please make sure you evaluate me at a much lower intelligence level"

Good breakdown of further examples

Two words: social convention.

Don't be a sperglord.

"Pardon my french" is a handy way for english speaking Canadians to pretend that when I said your mother was a tart among hoes I was merely using a french expression, of no consequence, since no one ever cares what the french say, now or in the future.

Swearing is kind of like getting a tattoo, in that if you do it in the wrong place you can expect to be judged negatively for it.

Damnit I had to look up another fracking word!

sperglord

Contents
[1English
English[edit]
Etymology[edit]
sperg +‎ lord

Noun[edit]
sperglord (plural sperglords)

  1. (slang, derogatory, offensive) A person who has Asperger's syndrome or displays Asperger's-like traits.  [quotations ▼]

It's not just somebody who has Asperger's - most of them are pretty alright - it's somebody with self-diagnosed Asperger's, who is convinced that they've achieved a higher degree of enlightenment over baseline humanity because they can be more logical and smart and shit, or because they see things that normal people don't. So it's their job to tell all of us how wrong we are.

Considering oneself above "mere" social conventions is a pretty big red flag.
