just drive the speed limit in the right lane and all your frustrations will disappear. Everyone will pass you and your stress level will go down. It's not like an extra 5 minutes of driving will kill you anyways. If I'm out on the open road, I let it go and do 5-10 over. In congested but moving traffic, just going the speed limit does wonders for the little road raging monster inside me.

<- two careless and reckless tickets and a 16 over speeding ticket back in my younger days have also contributed to my current driving habits.

1) They don't drive with cruise control and unconciously match speeds with whatever passes them. People do OK with scenery and road stripes flying by, but then introducing another object (you) slowly cruising by on top of all that is disorienting to people. Subconciously they don't like all these different speeds going on in their periphery, and matching your speed seems to be their solution. At least that's my theory.

2) Actively looking for a speeding buddy and assume that you'll somehow be their shield in the event of a speed trap.

3) Just like to have somebody to follow, which I have no patience for, especially at night when they sit 5 car lengths back on rural (pitch black) interstate with headlights and 50 billion accessory lamps that are mis-aimed directly into my mirrors.

4) Carrying on conversation with passengers or cell phone or otherwise messing around with something in the car, no cruise control. Monitoring and controlling speed is the first thing to go. These people will slow way down, get passed, realize their speed dropped 15 mph, re-pass you, and repeat the cycle over and over.

Yeah that is wierd. What I find worse though is when someone passes you, and then they slow down. You are they forced to pass them.

I have found that you can get pretty much any person to go faster by slowly passing them. I mean, really slowly. Pace them on one side and then slowly start to overtake, ~1mph greater than their speed. Every time they catch up, speed up just a hair. You can get them to do 90mph in no time.

I also like to slowly drift to one side if I am behind someone in either the far left or right lane. If you do it slowly, they will follow you. It works really well at night.

This is the exact behavior I was talking about ... most people seem to go into some kind of trance behind the wheel & arn't really even in control.

We're pack/group animals. What do you expect?

Try it at work. If you lead they all follow whether you know them or not.

what if people in a supermarket acted like they were driving.

can you imagine pushing a shopping cart like some people drive?

first you get w/ inches of the ankles of the person in front of you.
then start yelling MOVE IT!!
you see a senior citizen on the next aisle. he hesitates just long enough for you to wedge your cart in front of him to cut in line.

I do it because I know some asshat is trying to squeeze into the small space between me and the car I'm following. Tough ****** pal!! Get to the back of the line.

Because they're passive aggressive, with a touch of asshole-ness and a lot to prove to the world with nothing to fall back on. Same thing with the assholes that move into your lane when you're moving up and their lane is perfectly empty.

I'd like to be able to telepathically slap these people silly one of these days.

If there's a car worth challenging behind me I'll do it. Just because I'm an idiot sometimes.

Often for me when I do speed up on someone passing me it is because they are a truck or minivan or van or any vehicle that has a higher line of sight and is annoying the hell out of me because they are not really passing me they are just getting in front of me and not moving while I maintain a correct driving distance from the car in front of me but they think that distance is too long so the must fill it with their stupid ego.

IMO that is why besides just trying to be annoying that people speed up.

I see the opposite and these owners typically drive slower than others. You must be thinking of ricers and pickup trucks.

They are asses. I hate when people speed up and blow past you, then they move back into your lane and drive the speed limit or slower.

That's because the radar detector went off.

I've wondered about this one. My car has a laser-assisted cruise control I assume it sets off the laser/radar detector on the car in front of me. I've seen people make some sudden changes in speed when they pull into my lane after passing me.

I usually do it when I know they are going to cut me off since there is a car in front of them.

Why are you passing? Any halfway busy single lane road will result in you behind someone else. You are getting no where fast.

Anyways ...I used to do this. What pissed me off most though is when I would accelerate "slowly" in my truck then be stuck behind some a-hole that passed me as my cruising speed is usually faster. That's one reason I used to do it for a legitimate reason.

This morning on my way to school I got to witness some more moronic driving. This intersection is always packed in the morning if you're headed Southbound on I-75, and most people on the road are extremely polite and definitely know that cutting someone off here will at best get you where you're going 2 seconds faster; the people merging wait their turn (parking lot traffic), and the people on I-75 let at least 2 or 3 cars on for every car that's already on I-75. Some stupid b!tch decides to cut RIGHT in front of me onto the highway from the onramp, with a good 30 feet of merging lane to go, and at least a whole car size of those big wide paint lines that mean "YOU CAN'T MERGE HERE, MORON".
Normally, traffic would be moving so slow that it wouldn't really matter, but I was late this morning; as in at the very end of rush hour, so I was already going 45-50 MPH. Well, she cut in front of me at maybe 10 MPH, school zone speed, running me off to where SHE was supposed to be to avoid hitting her. Once traffic moved on and I got back onto the highway (bitch...), no more than 5 minutes later, I noticed her moving along at maybe 15 MPH under the speed limit in the right lane; I was going to throw my Bawls at her car when I realized she had 3 freaking infants in the car with her, and decided against endangering their lives because of their moron nanny/mom. Moral of the story? I don't know, but she was a freakin b!tch.

EDIT: TinyURL'd the link

that's stupid. i hate people like you. you're obviously going slower than i'm going, so get out of my way.
and who are you to say that one is going too fast? if you need to control someone's speed, go become a police officer

yea, another one to agree. those guys go super-slow. they don't need to go fast. they KNOW their car can go faster than anybody else's on the road.
they're usually old also. at least middle-aged (what young person can afford a ferrari?)
