Why do people stick their frontend of their car or truck out so far that you will hit them if you don't go around?

Why do people do this on heavy two lane traffic streets so much ? Are they asking to be hit? They are usually like coming out a store parking lot, street, etc

I have to do this every night when leaving work to go home, because people think it's a clever idea to park on the pavement on my side of the road so that I can't see any oncoming traffic. I just have to hope that someone will either let me go, or I don't get hit.

Because people dont realize that there are other drivers on the road. Same thing goes with turning lanes, 4 way stops, driving on the freeway. flippin idiots.

Same reason they hit parked cars, run lights & stop signs, don't signal, etc. The average person is an utter idiot and, if safety were a primary concern, would/should not be allowed to drive.

I drive a big pickup. I give them as little room as possible. They usually will put it in reverse to back up to get away from me.

When someone sits with the front half of their car out in the street, I stick to the middle of my lane as closely as possible. They usually back up to avoid me.

That's correct. If they stick out and you hit them, you win. Same with parking lots, although those are private property and you'll need a witness statement. Either way, easy method to get yourself a new front bumper, airbag, or some moola.

I hate this as well....although there are times when it's unavoidable. Like when the Neighborhood Beautification committees think it's a FABULOUS idea to plant a giant freaking tree right at the corner, or the gas station puts a 4'x6' sign saying MARLBORO REDS $34.99/CASE, COLD BEER, HOT DOGS 2/$0.99" right next to the exit onto the street, or some clueless resident thinks it's OK to park their behemoth Excursion 2 feet from the stop sign....etc...

It's expected, at least in NY. You have to watch for it. Sucks 10x over when you drive a car with a long front end.
