Why do people with big houses have a lot of pillows on their beds?

I've noticed this very often on cribs. The whole bed is full of pillows, but what's the point? You only need a maximum of four pillows on a bed, but 12?

It's not just people with big houses. It is women for the most part. You can go into a female's college dorm room that is no bigger than a jail cell and see a bed covered in pillows.

It's to fill the empty space. It all has to do with aesthetics. Personally, I have two pillows because it allows me to prop my head up higher.

Pillows are a status symbol, not unlike cars, clothes, and the length of your fingernails. A lot of pillows says "My body is too good to come into contact with even my 3000 thread count silk sheets" or "I so much leisure time that I can afford to spend 10 minutes throwing the pillows off my bed every night and another 20 putting them back on..... what am I saying.... the maid does that for me."

The point is that if you walk into a house and are shocked by the number of pillows, that means you couldn't afford to even lay under their bed. That's your sign to lower your head and avoid eye contact so as not to challenge dominance, and then slowly back out of the house. As soon as you clear the threshold, turn around and run back to your pillowless bed and cry yourself to sleep.

I have 4 pillows on my full sized bed. I hate those decorative pillows that are just a waste of money and space.

this is funny because one of my buddies asked me this last night. I have 8 BIG pillows on my bed....and he was like , dude , WTF , where do you SLEEP? I have two under my head one between my knees and one in front of me to lay my arm on.....my wife throws her sides' extra pillows on the floor and sleeps with one....what a waste of good pillows I say!!
By the way , my house isn't that big 2100 sq ft. single story home.......suburbia.

Yeah, its definately not a symbol of wealth. My wife (and I say my wife becuase I need 3, two for the bed and another for the couch on Sunday's. Yes, I could just get one from the bedroom, but that is all the way upstairs) has about 80 billion of them and we are not even close to wealthy. I think we might count as lower-middle class but thats about it. She says its so she can rotate them and build herself a little pillow thrown in the corner of the bed to sleep against. She uses more in the winter to help keep her warm.

All I know is that I can't ever seem to find my two pillows when its time for bed

Yea, I have like 10 pillows on my bed and my house is only 1200 sq ft (including the basement). Then again, my wife is an interior designer, so I don't argue about it.

It is not just rich folk.
I love pillows. We have four only on our bed now, but if my husband would let me, i would have a ton more. They feel nice, like you are laying in clouds.
They are really not necessary however. But i like them. Plus, they can accent the room and give it a luxe feel.

The Specialized Chunder is a pretty rockin' DH tire. Of course, it costs almost as much as tires for my car...

(Now if that isn't OT, I don't know what is. I'm just happy someone named something "Chunder.")

Edit to add link so people know WTF I'm talkin' about. Text

It's a woman thing, and is mostly for show. It's the same kind of thinking that produces concepts like matching decorative towels in the bathroom that are just for show, and aren't meant to be actually used.

LOL... I am glad your husband is man enough to stand to a mountain of pillows I honestly don't get what makes them look luxe...?

This reminds me of the type of 20 something year old chicks that still sleep with a teddy bear or a doll... what the heck...?

And buying $4000 Chinas just so they can display them... they will probably divorce you if you attempt to eat something on them...
