Even Andrew Jackson was a better man than George Washington.

Here's an incomplete list of George Washington's tyranny:
As commander of the Army of the Confederation, he purposefully disrupted the decentralized militia system that was defeating the British quickly and aristorcratically replaced it with the British system of uniforms, rank, hierarchy, high pay, and centralization. By doing so, he increased the length of the American Revolution and many unnecessary deaths of Patriot colonists.

As President, he raised taxes several times when he was one of the wealthiest men in the colonies (that is, he could've given his own money to the treasury).

He gave the bankers all the silver and promoted them creating money, but if anyone else did, they'd be executed under Federalist law.

He instituted the first national draft to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion.

During the Whiskey Rebellion, his forces killed many innocent civilians, while the Whiskey Rebels killed no innocents.

He collected arms from the Whiskey Rebels and stole their property to use as military forts.

He fully went along with Hamilton's economic fascism and subsidization of big business (the Whiskey Tax was an example).

He signed the first Fugitive slave act into law and took steps to genocide the Native Americans.

His salary was 2% of the Federal budget when he was President, when he was wealthier than Thomas Jefferson FFS.

Why tF are tyrants so popular? How could anyone like George Washington?

Because pretty much all of that is totally badass. If we had more men like him today, the world would be a better place.

We have Obama and all the other alive ex-presidents and all their supporters. Have they made the world better than it would be if they didn't exist?

Pffft, Obama couldn't perpetrate a genocide if he wanted to.

Don't compare an American hero and a warrior who fought without rules to a button downed politician.

The only thing that could have made General and President George Washington more bad ass is if he killed a guy in a duel on his lawn.

I think it's actually a good question.

The answer has various parts, an important one is that people like to idolize the founder of their country; it reflects on them and their country. How many countries do that?

Another is simply the effect of the repetition of how great he was over and over for centuries.

There's a saying, 'no man is a hero to his valet', describing some of these effects.

I think it is better, though to have a realistic view and appreciate the real person, his good and bad points. But the 'hero' thing has been effective at rallying public spirit.

George Washington has plenty of good traits to recognize, and some not so good.

Thanks Craig: ) Anyway, it troubles me that it seems to be human nature to make heroes out of people without thinking about all the bad they did.

I think it's a matter of perspective. EVERYONE does bad things.

At the time his peers, his enemies, and his people felt he was a great man. After his time they felt he was a great man. He probably was a great man. Nobody claimed he was perfect.

There is a painting of him stepping down as commander in chief and general of the continental army. He could have stayed on and become a dictator. At the time that was extraordinary.

Next time on the Anarchist420 Show: Did Obama send back a cyborg clone of Nixon through time to get America off the gold standard? Plus: what would Lincoln have thought about this cybernetic Nixon impostor?

History is always written by the victor.

Politically, I didn't care much for him. He was advocating no political parties and passing himself off as a "neutral".

In reality Washington was about as neutral as Joe Lieberman.

I have heard people call John Wayne a hero because he played that role in movies. So I am not surprised some people would idolize one of the "founding fathers" even if his actions or beliefs do not support your political agenda.
