In the snow? Let the idiots pass you.

Indeed. If they pose a greater risk to the public I would want that risk far far away from me. I rather he be ahead of me than directly behind me where me may make a drastic manoeuvre and have me become a part of his wreckage.

Happens here too in SE Michigan. You'd think they would get used to driving in the snow, but fuck no. Any time any little snow gets on the freeway, people go full retard and proceed to drive 20 mph. And tailgate. And, because they think they're going fast enough to warrant getting in the left lane, go 25 mph in the left lane. I don't expect people to speed if it's slippery, but for FUCK'S SAKE, get out of the fucking left lane. That drives me the craziest, not so much the slow drivers themselves.

Low traction driving knowledge requires practice at driving maneuvers that are usually considered illegal.

I love when you drive in the snow and some asshat in a four wheel drive flies past you. I had some dumb shit pass me in 4 inches of snow going 65 in a 35...

He wouldn't go that fast if the roads were clear. People are just stupid. I've never gone in the ditch in snow unless I wanted to. Even in my cruze that is helpless in snow.

when it "sprinkles" or just normal few inches of rain here in So. Calif, your safest bet is to stay home - you are a brave soul if you venture out... by the time I was 23, I have had lost 3 cars due to people who can't drive in the rain.

Well, unless you learn it in, like, the snow .

I tried that yesterday. Saw an unplowed parking lot with ~4 inches on my way home. Had too much traction in my FWD car. (Either that or I'm chicken shit and afraid to really gun it and slide around)

As long as it's not a massive empty school parking lot...tried that once and somebody called the cops.

TBH, penn drivers are some of the worst drivers I have ever seen. Used to be NJ drivers but lots of NYers moves to NJ and all the shitty NJ drivers have moved to Penn. Really, as a NY driver I avoid NJ and PA divers when i am on the road.

Having lived in both places, I'll say that Jersey drivers aren't bad (mostly), just very, very aggressive.

Hey, just because some crappy little Prius with shitty tires can't handle the snow, doesn't mean I should have to drive 20 mph for 45 minutes.

I've got snow tires, a wide wheel base, and 4WD. I know how far I need to leave between me and the car in front of me so that I can stop.

Just stay out of the left lane and we'll both be fine.

So should you slow down to a speed you feel comfortable driving--and have zillions of cars pass you; or should you drive at the speed of the general traffic flow?

You should stay home if those are your options. If you're not comfortable keeping up with traffic you are a hazard on the road to everyone.

Aren't the roads at their slickest when it first starts getting wet cause of the oil on the roads?

In the summer, sure. But in winter, ice is MUCH more slippery than that wet oil sheen that happens when it rains.

You need the speed before you gun it in FWD. Once you have some speed up, crank the wheel and punch the gas. Once your momentum has you going sideways, you can do lots of fun stuff.

Or you can do it the old fashioned way and go in reverse.

early this morning, i saw a pickup truck spin out on the pa turnpike, he was doing 70 on the ice and snow, was about 12 deg outside. the pickup hit a huge patch of ice and then a big pothole right after, he lost control, the rear of the truck hit the guardrail, bounced into traffic, got hit again by an double wide 18-wheeler, then did a 360 spin-out into a ditch.

all this was about 1/8 mile in front of me, thanks to that asshole, everyone was delayed. his truck got his so hard, the rear bed separated from the cab.

yes people when its ice on the ground, slow your ass down.

Still illegal in the snow too. My wife is from a snowless part of California and it doesn't snow very often here in Portland. So one time that we do get some snow, I decide to teach her how to drive in it. Giant wide open mall parking lot, after hours, someone calls the cops.

We got off with a warning, but only because my wife was behind the wheel. Word of advice : when a cop gives you the long lecture in this situation, don't interrupt to ask them how they learned to drive in the snow.

Ice is the worst of all. Snow is no problem to drive in as long as you have the right tires, but when you hit ice and everything goes eerily quiet... start praying.
