maybe you should just leave it as "not for everyone".

a person making 50k a year here can barely make ends meat. At 50k a year, you are still living in an apartment, driving an econo-box, and forced to down top-ramen...not to mention traffic. If you are going to live outside of the bay area or LA, you'd have to live in the valley...or maybe sac...or maybe even stockton. If you are going to live that far to "save" money, you may as well leave cali. It's sad to hear people tell stories about their 2 hour commute times.


so yeah, you CAN make more here...but it comes at a high price.

edit: there are many justifiable (for and against) arguments listed here; I'm impressed that this thread hasn't turned into just mud slinging..

I like California-- the Bay Area especially (respect to soCal too)-- because of the weather and the way of life enjoyed here. Granted it's more expensive to live, traffic is horrible, and the number of obnoxious people one tends to meet is higher, but those are all byproducts of living in a metropolitan area, not because of the state. The Bay Area reminds me of Vancouver, where I grew up, in the general tolerance of its citizens and the beauty of the natural surrounding areas.

I have lived in California my entire life. Yes, it is costly here, we do have alot of traffic (mostly LA area), but the opportunities here are endless. If you got what it takes you can get any job you want. The weather is perfectly fine to me. It will get a bit hot during summer, but thats what pools and our beaches filled with beautiful woman are for. If you go up to Norcal its just like any other rural state ( minus san francisco).

It's funny that the environmentalists are the ones that live in the cities and pollute the most just by living there and paying city taxes that go to city programs. While us rednecks live in an unpolluted area with wilderness and learn to respect nature rather than treating it like a commodity.
