Why do some people grow out their pinky nails so long?

a lot of the native chinese workers at my place have long pinky nails... i asked them why and they just kinda brush me off...

can someone tell me why people have long pinky nails? the obvious reason is to pick ur nose with... but when u have both pinky nails out long... i duno

a lot of black people have them too and my uncle at one point did aswell, i forgot whay he told me he did it
i know some people have it to sniff cocaine yes, and others do it for the look or status? kinda like pulling 1 pant leg up or wearing your pants low

A stereotype? It's not a stereotype. It's a fact. People use them to snort cocaine with frequently... there might be other uses, but 9/10 that's what they're for.

way back in my high school days, people left their pinky nail long so they can use it to cut a philly to roll a blunt in case they didn't have anything to cut with. I find that method rather inefficient.

I remembered a conversation once about this... something to do with Chinese Luck. Financial luck if I'm not mistaken. I never knew the origin however or if it was just an excuse as long pinky nails have been known to sample cocaine or to use as a snuff spoon... same thing. But I don't think that's the case here.

Yep, gotta be a drug thing, either that or they are dredging for boogers when nobody is looking.

Also, maybe you don't want to ask too many questions, lest you become a statistic. Could be a part of some kind of gang culture too.
Who knows why peeps do what they do, but I remember seeing teens with baby pacifiers in their mouths too. I never got to the bottom of that one either.

Holy crap, I figured someone would have chimed in by now. Anyways, I asked my mom about this a while ago. We're asian btw.

Now, take your hand and turn it palms towards you. If the tip of your pinky does not line up to the crease in your ring finger due to it being too short, you must grow out your nail to match the crease.

I forgot she said why, but i'm guessing it's along the lines of luck or well-being.
