every-one has their choices and reasons for and against casting their vote;

How about in-mates or Hospital patients (both physical and mental), do spy's get a chance to cast their vote?

Not everyone can cast their voice, be thankfull for having a choice

"I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don't vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain", but where's the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain.

I, on the other hand, who did not vote -- who did not even leave the house on Election Day -- am in no way responsible for that these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created."

I voted, but because of our incredibly messed up (and old fashioned) electoral college, my vote didn't count. Once they tallied up my state, and as always 60% of my state went Democrat, my poor little vote got ignored in the overall picture.

Popular Vote FTW.

Voting is a right and a priviledge. But just becase you CAN do something doesn't mean you have to do it. In the grand scheme of things, 1 person not voting doesn't have any effect on the outcome in most cases. But of course if half the population all thought they were that one person, then it'd have a huge effect.

The common vote does not elect presidents anyway, the electoral college does.

i used to refrain from voting when i didn't know enough to make an educated vote. the past few years, my wife and i have been getting more involved in politics, well - the educating side of things at least.

i think as you get older, you are able to relate to the issues more.

Yeah but you vote for lots of other things besides the president... THe presidential election is probably the one that matters the least because there's hundreds of millions of other people voting too. But for local officials and things like that, each vote means a lot more...

I don't vote for a simple reason. I feel an ignorant vote (mine) is worse than not voting. I don't know enough about the candidate(s) in question 99% of the time to cast my vote. Usually people rebut this with "Pick a single topic then and vote based on that (ie: prolife/abortion etc). Well the problem with that is while I may choose the candidate that is pro-life, he may also be the candidate that is pro killing the last born male in every family (ie: me). So that is not a simple answer.

Sadly, I don't think 51% or better of the "options" we have had in the past 15+ years have been vote worth on any side of the fence.

i was going to say this, if you don't vote then you are making no effort to change things, not voting and then bitching about polotics is like doing nothing but sitting on your ass, and then complaining that you have no job

I'm 24, I'm lazy, I haven't yet. I always said I'd vote when I truely understood who I was voting for, beyond the cheap ad campaigns.

I don't think I've ever bitched about things. On the flip side, it would be no better if it were Gore or Bush in office right now. It maybe different, but not better.

I hate having to vote for the lesser of two evils. Our choices were so bad this past time around that I actually had to vote for Bush! Barf!

i agree though that voting is like choosing the lesser of 2 evils

perhaps if they did put the choice of "none of the above" on the ballot more people would vote

*edit*

where could some one make a suggestion like that?

Thats pretty much exactly what I was going to post.

I vote for the local and state governments, but the national ones are largely a waste of fvcking time. By the time they get through the primaries, only the most mush mouthed, boring ass, stand-for-nothing incompetents are left standing. Anyone of any substance is dumped out as too controversial to the wide demographic that represents the united states as a whole. In the effort to find a person the represents everyone, we pick a person that represents no one. To make matters worse, there are only two parties...the douchebags and the turds. Neither ever have any new ideas, and their old rehashed ideas are still bad.

And this brings us full circle. Some one said they don't know enough about politics to vote...I think most people that vote with any conviction for a candidate on a national scale do so precisely because they don't know anything about the candidates. Thats the problem with democracy. People are fvcking stupid.

In the end, you just end up voting for the one you think won't fvck YOU personally over more then the next guy. Because when they have no good plans you have to fall back on being selfish.

I didn't vote because my one vote really doesn't make a difference. So why bother?

Your one vote may not matter in federal or state elections, but it does very much matter in some local elections - many local races are declared with a margin of only a few votes.

it is better if some people don't vote

the notion that uninformed people voting somehow makes the country better is a falicy
