I voted on this past presidential election, it was my first time. But I don't usually vote on another events because i have no idea what they are for and who the candidates are?
I'll probably vote for governor or state senators because i know who they are.

Because the electoral college nullifies the significance of my vote. It's just one of many archaic systems that need to be entirely reworked or done away with.

IMO a few basic questions should have to be correctly answered in order to have voting rights; Does the earth revolve around the sun? Is the world flat? This would eliminate people who have no business voting.

Your one vote may not matter in federal or state elections, but it does very much matter in some local elections - many local races are declared with a margin of only a few votes.

If the vote isn't a complete tie before my having voted then my vote is worthless and pointless.

I wouldn't vote if I didn't know much about the candidates. But, I do enjoy going into the booth and pulling the levers. makes me feel like I'm a space pilot or something.

Because I don't mind the 20% of the population in my state that vote to steal from the 80% of us.

i was going to say this, if you don't vote then you are making no effort to change things, not voting and then bitching about polotics is like doing nothing but sitting on your ass, and then complaining that you have no job

I can't believe people believe this bullsh!t.

Just the kind of intellectual sloth that comes straight out of the government school system.

Replace with CA and democrats...

I vote on local (Alaska) issues but that's it.

I never vote for president for several reasons:

1; There hasn't been one candidate come along yet who wasn't any better than my dog's stool after eating taco bell leftovers;

2; Living in Alaska means that 99% of the country lives in a farther-ahead time zone, so by the time I'm off work and ready to head to the polls, the elections already been decided in most cases;

3; My state only has 3 electoral votes and no candidate has ever come here to campaign because we're not enough to make a difference;

4; The electoral system invalidates my vote because Alaska is largely republican and I am not, so my vote truly is a lost cause.

a much more interesting question is why the vast majority of registered independents vote straight ticket or virtually so.

the american electorate is a fascinating, and largely illogical, group of folks.

I am 24 years old. I live in Texas. I figure voting in the past two presidential elections would've been a lost cause. Next time around, I'll be there bright and early.

I do, however, vote locally.

OK, so Who T F are you and where do you live, bunghole? :|
Oh, I wish I could say what I really thought!

Umm... I live in America. And I dont think there is anything wrong with stating the facts. I am not saying anything against Americans. I myself am pretty lazy. People talk about lazy Americans all the time. I mean just look at the voter turnout and that right there shows that Americans are lazy.

You guys take things like this too personally. And go ahead an PM me what you really think. I will be glad to hear it and retort.

I am 32.

I have never voted because the 2 main parties are crooked as hell.

The past year, I have decided to start voting.I looked at some of the parties and decided that the Libertarian party is the closest thing to my preferences in a party. Even though me voting for a third party may seem useless, I figure if I can finally decide to vote for a third party then others might do the same. Eventually the Aholes in government now might eventually be ousted.

BTW, ever noticed than NONE of the 3rd parties are ever invited to the debates... WTF is that about??? Are they afraid that the 3rd party candidates will make the other 2 candidates look like fools???

As soon as I get some time to go register, I will be ready for the next vote.

Did you read what I said in a later post? Are were you too lazy. Jeez, Jay Leno says the same thing every night and you dont get all bitchy at him and call him a terrorist. If you want me to back myself up I will, I am sure I will find a lot of great facts about how Americans are lazy. Also, I said myself that I am an American, and I too am lazy.

Not everyone lives in the States, Genius. You absolutely have to choose a party on the Canadian ballot AFAIK.

Yeah, you proved you're stupid in that post by assuming your conclusion in your defense.

"Why don't Americans vote?"
"Because they're lazy"
"Why do you say Americans are lazy?"
"Because they don't vote"

...

There are other possible explanations for why Americans don't vote.
1. They don't care
2. They don't think their vote makes a difference
3. They don't like any of their choices
etc.

(Really, I don't care if you called Americans lazy, but I didn't like when you said you have posted more intelligent things than most people on these forums... when you only have 335 posts )

I used to be excited to vote. I vote Democrat, Republican, Libertarian and others (usually Democrat or Republican in national elections). I don't care, just for whoever I believe is the best person for the job and is closer aligned to what I believe in. I don't think so anymore though. I voted for someone who supposedly cared about the environment and they want to drill for oil in Alaska. I voted for people who supposedly cared about individual rights and they voted for the Patriot Act. I could go on but I won't.

I do and will continue to vote in local elections though.
