Why do those of the Jewish faith vote so heavily Democrat?

According to the last election, 74% of those who are Jewish voted Democrat compared to only 25% voting Republican. Why is that?

Joe Lieberman is a jewish democrat. Also I beleive he has better ties with Israel and Israeli policies than Bush does, and that is why a majority of the jewish population would support him.

Actually. it is the fundamentalist Christian crowd, not 'people of faith' who are lumped in with conservatives. Not that the Republican party has anything to do with conservatism.

Generally speaking, Jews tend to be more Liberal. That may or may not be true everywhere, but in NA it seems to be the case.

They really aren't though. However, there is a huge segment of evangelicals that have tied themselves to the Republican party though, but as a whole, people of faith are hardly tied to the Republican party. According to the figures on CNN, they're pretty close together overall.

Its because Jews see themselves as a vulnerable minority. They see the Republican party as the most likely to lean towards discriminating against Jews and excluding them from mainstream America.
In most Jewish peoples minds the holocaust and the 2000 year history of pogroms is still fresh.
Recent Republican policies have hardened Jewish Americans fear. They see a pro-Christian government where religion is once again a criteria for jobs, success, etc.
Democrats have always stood for the average American of every religion and ethnicity. Of course Jews will support the party that supports all Americans, not just the few.

Historically, Jews have been victims of discrimination. So Jews see a strong Constitution that protects the civil liberties of minorities against the incursions of oppressive majorities as extremely important. That's basically a liberal position. Conservatives tend to promote free enterprise (at the expense of the individual) rather than civil liberties (at the expensive of free enterprise).

Michael Medved is a very strong conservative jew. He's also one of the smartest men in politics. I have a couple of his books and I listen to his radio show every so often which kills Rush Limbaughs show (I agree a lot with Rush but his show just isn't that good).

Most of the time, the free market economy doesn't impact on civil liberties,
as its only civil concern is that you as a consumer has enough money to
pay for the liberties it offers.

But sometimes the effort to gain control of a market, or to affect outside influences
on the business model, causes companies to ignore or violate other civil liberties
