It's either a wolfman in a ninja suit, a frog with a machine gun, or a cheesily rendered laura croft wannabe. It makes the product feel cheap to me to have such crappy (and pointless) art on the box. Maybe it's like an inside thing that they gayer your box art is the better your card is.

If I were you, I would be more careful with my choice of words. Words that may offend a certain group of demographic is not tolerated here AFAIK, not even in the most casual sense (not that I personally feel sympathetic towards that policy, but rules are rules).

Well for one I dont really care either way what they put on for box art. What would YOU rather see on a video card box anyway?

Heh, there are far, far more offensive things posted in Off Topic.

My EVGA's GTX260's box art looks cool. 3dfx had some nice art towards the end as well.

I like the funky, abstract patterns that appear on many of the GTX cards/boxes.

Most of the boxes are gay in decoration. I'm not sure what the problem is. Look up the word gay in the dictionary.

2. bright or showy: gay colors; gay ornaments.

Anyway back to the original topic. You don't see such lame packaging on most other components. I think it would make more sense to put a rendered scene from an actual hit video game, or perhaps just a nice logo on a sleek black box. Either way a sea monster with a rocket launcher just seems silly, especially when it's completely fabricated and not related to any of the games you might use it for.

you think they are going to pay the game devs money just to use a character to put on their box? i highly doubt it.

and like someone said above, my GTX260 came in a nice black box with an orange stripe that has "GTX 260" in it; with a big, silver EVGA logo across the bottom.

My Asus card wasn't too bad. Came in a solid black box with just the logo.

And 3dfx always had the best box art back in the day.

More so than the cheesy graphics, I think the Engrish on motherboard packaging is more bizarre. ASUS' slogan is "Rock Solid : Heart Touching"....wha? I'd prefer my electronics keep a safe distance from my cardiovascular system.

My DFI motherboard box said "UV on: Tweak fun!". I have no doubt that the people designing the packaging for these products have a perfect grasp of the English language, they just don't know how to appeal to U.S. consumers. No one chooses computer hardware based on cheesy slogans anyway, just leave them off.

What's truly needed is a standard 'e-peen bar' to imply the potency of the card. So your basic radeon 9550 would have one that's about a sixteenth of an inch long, and an 4870x2s would be 'continued on next box' etc.

The company names themselves aren't much better...

DFI aka Diamond Flower Incorporated aka 'that's too cheesy for a enthusiast company, let's pretend it stands for "Design for Innovation" instead'

MSI aka Microstar International aka "My Style Inside"

LG aka Lucky Goldstar aka "Life's Good"

(See a theme here yet?)

EDIT: Oh yes, and let's add BioStar, Sparkle, and SuperFlower for good measure. The only US company I can immediately think of that rivals them as far as cheesy company names is SuperTalent aka Walmart.

I always thought ATI had the best graphics on their boxes back in the day, all the way up to the X19xx series. Haven't seen a company come close to ATI's graphics. Not that it matters, but you asked.

Kind of like the "good better best" bar on BFG retail boxes? It is towards the lower right corner of the front.

While I do own a SuperFlower PSU, and it seems quite nice - what is the relationship between SuperTalent and WalMart?

If you send your card to me, I'll draw a rainbow on it. You'll have to pay shipping though.

Not me... I try to find cards that are as close to OEM as possible. IMO, most of the AIB partners just cheese up otherwise clean designs.

I understand that the AIB partners what to distinguish themselves from the pack, and they think some stupid stickers will help. If AIBs really want to distinguish themselves, it should be witj good service, support, and warranty. Service, support, and warranty is why I'll always buy an EVGA card if I can, in spite of (not because of) the goofy stickers they put on their cards.
