Huh? Did you even read the post that you're replying to? And do you realize that I'm not the one that started this thread?

this quote?

"No, but that tiny new person is the result of 2 people who make really bad decisions, so that that for what it's worth."

Yes, that was in reply to Geekbabe, who in turn was replying to this statement by the OP:

"When a 14 year old, or drug addict, or pregnant mother of the 12th time comes in pregnant, everyone rolls their eyes and says "what's happening to our society," or "we'll be paying for that baby with our taxes."

it's like our entire existence is based around having your genes get carried on throughout time. when you have a kid, it's like, congratulations, your job as an animal is done.

all she said was it doesn't matter what the parents did. Then you make some general statement about 2 people making really bad decisions, which might not be true depending on the status of the parents.

Sweet, my job is so much easier than I thought! Why didn't anyone tell me this before? I could be so much further ahead!

I think the real problem in society is people like the OP, who see nothing but negatives while living in a mostly sheltered life. Mommy didn't hug you enough or what?

People having Babies are part of the Inferior Poor. Thus they have made their own contribution in life, bringing more mouths to feed. Don't deny them their rare congratulatory action.

That's offensive, Sandorski. Babies are a wonderful thing, even babies brought into this world by 14 year old ho's and drug addicts. It's also great that our taxes have to pay for them while the completely inept parent gets to instill the child with their values. This is how you were born, and the world is a better place because of it.

Hi OP. I found this old post because I wanted to Google search whether it would be weird to congratulate my accounting professor for having a baby (I overthink too much . Normally I wouldn't post back, but your post made me so angry, I had to reply (after I calmed down, of course ...)

I completely agree that there are some people who should not choose not to have children. I also agree that people should not do drugs or rely solely on government assistance and not try to earn their wealth. But I must say...your original post is very disheartening to read. Please do not say that "worshipping Ala, Christ, Yahweh," is an "assonine thing stupid people do." I'm sure many of the posters who believe in Islam, Christianity, or Judaism would liken this statement to you saying that it is stupid of them to love someone very close to them. I don't mind if you do not believe. But I will stand up for Christ, always. Please stay safe if you are still working in the ER. Thank you.

I seldom congratulate people when they are going to have a child, but when it I do it's because the first 2 years are going to hell for them at first, usually it makes them grow up and stop thinking only about themselves. Just getting used to the child care/time needed to work at a career at the same time is daunting, especially if going it alone or if one of the "partners" is useless or gives up and leaves. But it's different for everybody which is why I don't congratulate everyone because some will fail and run back home whether it be for financial or emotional reasons.
Having said all that, I'm a single dad with 2 teenage daughters. Having them is the single greatest thing I have done in my simple life. It changed me drastically, thank goodness and I love them dearly and am very proud to have overcome a few obstacles for my family. Now I have 2 wonderful kids, even though they piss me off all time cause I like things my way most of the time and well, they are teenagers...lol.

Can't supply tax dollars and the various programs that come from it to the state without a fresh supply of labor. Even if locals successfully cull themselves, they still welcome folks from outside places willing to pop more of them out to supply that labor and tax revenue.

Inverted population pyramid is a no bueno situation for societies and there is pressure to do, uh, "bad" things to the burdensome part of the population(old people).

Snatchface you bring up one of the best points ever that I have always wondered myself. The population is growing out of control and we wonder why China limits 1 child to a family. I know China is a lot smaller but soon we will have the same issues if the population growth continues like this unchecked.
And less than 12 years later, China lifted the policy. However, due to enculturation and exorbitant cost of living, there is no baby-making wave.

Why a totalitarian regime would lift it and start encouraging the opposite behavior? For its(the state's) own self-interest of course. They got too many pensioners and equivalent burdens and not enough fresh young heads to tax to fuel their economic machine.

'Rona helped, an, "relieve" that old and weak burden a bit.

Having a child is an intense, life changing event. My life can be most cleanly bisected into two parts: Before I was a father and after.

Anyone who chooses to take it head on deserves at least a pat on the back. A lot of us will screw it up with the best of intentions, a lot of us will learn from our parents mistakes and screw up in whole new ways, very few of us will thread that needle just perfectly, and some of us will be outright abysmal parents.

This isn't an endorsement for all people having kids, this isn't some sort of anti-abortion endorsement or anything else.

We congratulate people for so many other mundane life events that its the least anyone could do for one of, if not the biggest, event in many people's lives.

You could always do what I do..."Oh no. My condolences." After all...they're about to have an expensive parasite in the house for AT LEAST 18 years...some seem to never leave.

And yes, it just so happens that it is the poorest, unemployed, lowest intelligence people in the community that are having the most babies - essentially those least capable of raising and supporting them. That is well documented fact. And I pay 39% federal tax to help them do it. Those babies will not be productive members of society and will not be contributing to welfare when it's my time to retire. They'll be sucking it dry on SSI/disability with 10 kids each. That is all.
It's either that, or provide tax payer funded birth control to the destitute at no cost to them. Which Fox News calls, "Socialism run amok".

I agree. Waiting until they have the baby is a sham. I like to congratulate the future mothers on my way out the door when I'm done!

"Congratulations on your life! Don't call."

Off the top of my head it's to pass on the idea that you're supposed to be ecstatic to be a new parent. I have noticed that a great many parents of children (i.e. they are not full grown) are extremely devoted to their offspring. So, it's to get them at least going in the right direction. I don't think this is a bad thing. Just sayin', I've raised no kids.
