You guys know what really damaged the culture?

Kid Rock doing some shitty version of Sweet Home Alabama where he uses the music but talks about hookers and shit.

You have no idea how popular that song is above the Mason-Dixon line with suburban white kids. Most of them have no idea how inherently racist it is nor do they care.

What?

This is calling for a BS Flag. Please point out the racist parts for me.

Southern Rock, man. Fusion of guitar rock with folk, country (often bluegrass or Rock-a-Billy), or blues.

Yup, and the best of it sticks to your ribs like grits and fatback for breakfast.

What I want to know is why the Inuit (Eskimos) go so crazy for whale blubber.

Ha! I tweeted "She's just a small town girl living in a lonely world..." a few minutes ago (been in my head since the Lady Gaga-Sting-Elton John-Springsteen performance last weekend) and now I read this thread.

I guess I'm white.:awe:

Ugh, welcome to land of way overplayed AOR radio where decent songs get so beat to death your hand moves like lightning to the tuner to try to find something, anything besides those type of songs..

FTR-I hate both of those songs. Journey is perhaps one of the worst bands ever...well, with the exception of Lynyrd Skynyrd of course.

That is as statement of personal opinion, not a statement of fact. Journey has one of the most impressive and admired catalogs of music ever. Go back and look what they've done starting in 1975. They have spanned 3 1/2 decades. Not many bands that are still around have that going for them. Their music has always been upbeat for the most part, and maybe the reason they were not popular among some circles is because they never sang about emo crap, suicide, nor did they ever openly condone alcohol and drug abuse. Neal Schon, a founding member said "we're an upper, not a downer".
People who have only heard what is known as the "dirty dozen", or radio play songs, need to go through the catalog and give the songs a listen. There are some deeper cuts that are just awsome. Journey has something for everybody.....that's what makes them unique.

Don't Stop Believin' is an American icon. The band is still getting mostly rave reviews of their most recent concerts. They have found a real gem in Arnel Pineda. What a nice, humble guy! I've met him and he's a super nice guy.

Why do black people love CRANK DAT SOULJABOI?

Does that actually constituent a song? It's the same freakin looping steel pan riff with a YOUUUUU thrown in for emphasis. For 3+ mind-numbing minutes. I can listen to about 30 seconds of that "song" before I wanna throw something at the radio.

As far as the two songs mentioned, I know especially here in Detroit Metro area they play Don't Stop Believing at most of the major sports venues here specifically for the line "...born and raised in South Detroit..."

Sweet Home Alabama - never heard this song before.

Don't Stop Believin - heard this one on Glee for the first time.

Don't worry, after one more generation these songs won't even be recognizable.

I live in White Massachusetts, though I am not White. Still, never heard them growing up.

How old are you? Assuming you like rock music at all, you could be missing out on a bunch of really great music.

There's some guy at work who claims to have never (knowingly) heard a Beatles song.

No doubt. I'm equally skeptical that old boy in this thread hasn't heard Sweet Home Alabama. Of course, I didn't realize that anyone thought SHA was racist or still didn't understand the "revved up like a deuce" line either.

Blech...I still think they suck...and I grew up with that shit when I was in my teens in the early 1980s. Sappy corny shit music that is as crappy today as it was in the early 80's. I fucking hate Journey.

Damn, that's some fucking hate! My guess would be something bad happened, like getting dumped by the love of your life and Journey was in the back drop somewhere.

Let me ask you this - Did you like Bad English?

Hey Steve! Long time no see.

Not to pile on and harsh your Journey love, but just a couple nights ago on Treme (HBO), the white DJ character had assembled a true Nawlins all star group of musicians to record a song he wrote.

The sound engineer asks him if he wants a pre-recorded drum/guitar intro spliced in to the live recording, and the DJ roars in disgust, "HELL NO, what do you think we are, Journey?"
