i thought SHA was a country beat...
Southern Rock, man. Fusion of guitar rock with folk, country (often bluegrass or Rock-a-Billy), or blues.
Love to give the girls a whirl to the music of an old juke boxI'm a beloved patriot..............tonk man
and I can't seem to stop
You have no idea how popular that song is above the Mason-Dixon line with suburban white kids. Most of them have no idea how inherently racist it is nor do they care.

What?
This is calling for a BS Flag. Please point out the racist parts for me.
FTR-I hate both of those songs. Journey is perhaps one of the worst bands ever...well, with the exception of Lynyrd Skynyrd of course.
Why do black people love CRANK DAT SOULJABOI?
Sweet Home Alabama - never heard this song before.
Don't Stop Believin - heard this one on Glee for the first time.
Don't worry, after one more generation these songs won't even be recognizable.
I live in White Massachusetts, though I am not White. Still, never heard them growing up.

How old are you? Assuming you like rock music at all, you could be missing out on a bunch of really great music.
There's some guy at work who claims to have never (knowingly) heard a Beatles song.
he's certainly heard a beatles song. he just didn't know it was the beatles.
That is as statement of personal opinion, not a statement of fact. Journey has one of the most impressive and admired catalogs of music ever. Go back and look what they've done starting in 1975. They have spanned 3 1/2 decades. Not many bands that are still around have that going for them. Their music has always been upbeat for the most part, and maybe the reason they were not popular among some circles is because they never sang about emo crap, suicide, nor did they ever openly condone alcohol and drug abuse. Neal Schon, a founding member said "we're an upper, not a downer".
People who have only heard what is known as the "dirty dozen", or radio play songs, need to go through the catalog and give the songs a listen. There are some deeper cuts that are just awsome. Journey has something for everybody.....that's what makes them unique.
Don't Stop Believin' is an American icon. The band is still getting mostly rave reviews of their most recent concerts. They have found a real gem in Arnel Pineda. What a nice, humble guy! I've met him and he's a super nice guy.
Blech...I still think they suck...and I grew up with that shit when I was in my teens in the early 1980s. Sappy corny shit music that is as crappy today as it was in the early 80's. I fucking hate Journey.
Damn, that's some fucking hate! My guess would be something bad happened, like getting dumped by the love of your life and Journey was in the back drop somewhere.
Let me ask you this - Did you like Bad English?
