Oblivion Lost mod changes a lot of aspects of the game: different sounds, different weapons, better graphics, increased size of the backpack (in terms of kilograms), and lots of other things. If you installed the mod and after loading the game do not see a different (redesigned) menu - you should reinstall the mod using the Smart Mod Installer.

It's definitely more than 3 fights.

You'll probably have to go through more of the story. Be sure to save before and after to make sure you get the rifle.

Also, what are the best artifacts to carry? Right now I have 3 of the +200% health ones and 1 of the +400% health ones on me, and it seems to make my HP go up pretty fast when I'm not in combat. I'm not sure if it does anything other than that, or if it is worth it to get that -30% or -40% to my Impact, Rupture, and Bulletproof Cap stats (although admittedly I don't know what any of those do either, yay).

Although weak, the best gun I found was the TR-67 (?) Duty gun modded to use AK ammo. It's accuracy is gimped compared to the regular version, but once I got that, I never had a problem with ammo. However, you may want to bring along something more accurate for long range fights; I chose to only bring a shotgun for close encounters cause of weight limitations.

i finally got the Oblivion Lost mod to work last night. the guns sound more realistic now. some neat new guns so far as well. the ai definitely seems to rove around more, and where the hell did the huge packs of dogs come from? like 20 dogs in 1 single pack!

some new enemies too, like zombies, some sort of mutant human with long arms and legs, and a mutant cat-like creature.

i hate the blowouts. how are you supposed to survive them?

Go into a basement, provided there is one nearby. Mine usually occurred right after I loaded a game so I simply re-loaded the same game again.

Stalker seems just as bad as any other FPS game for motion sickness, though this is a opinion as i never experience motion sickness.

On another note, I tried the Oblivion lost mod.
After i remembered how the controls worked i took out a military patrol with my hand gun, stoke their SMG's, killed some bandits and declared myself superman. By this time night was falling and a heavy thunder storm moved in, and it started getting pitch black and a "blowout" started (first one for me). Not knowing what to expect and remembering kirilus's post i ran back to the starting area to hide underground, which didn't work well as the radiation almost killed me. At this point i was wondering where the "curl up in a ball and cry in a corner" button was, as it was night in RL when i began playing this. When the world seemed to stop trying to tear itself apart i crept outside to see what had happened, but i couldn't see anything, it was so damn dark. I remember the flashlight button and have the s*** scared out of me when i reveal a mutant panther(?) about 5 feet in front of me.
That was all i could handle for the rest of the night.

Indeed, the night time blowouts are always a source of anxiety and fear, it creeps me out each time it happens, although I'm playing a different mod (SIMBION). What I like about the mod I am playing is the fog effect, I swear at one point the fog was so tick and dense that it made me remember the first level in Silent Hill 2, I couldn't see more than a few meters in front of me. And what's even better is to have a thunder storm and heavy rain along with that same fog, it creates such an atmosphere... it's almost palpable.

One way I've read to decrease motion sickness is to desensitize yourself by playing said FPS, when you feel the slightest bit sick you stop playing for 15 minutes then resume playing the game. Over time you should be able to last a decent amount of time.

The default head bobbing in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. gave me some headaches, and in most modifications I've played so far it was never changed, so I changed it myself, it's much better now, I can play for hours non-stop without the slightest of the problems. For those who would like to try it you need to find the effectors.ltx file under [...]\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\gamedata\config\misc\

Inside that file the very first lines look like this:

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;; Actor Effector Section
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

[bobbing_effector]

run_amplitude = 0.0025
walk_amplitude = 0.004
limp_amplitude = 0.010

The numbers you see are the ones I've been using (they are modified, so the default values are different). Those values are the only ones that need to be changed to reduce or augment the head bobbing effect. Once the tweaking is done simply save the changes and play the game, there's no need to start a new game for the effect to be applied.

NOTE: If you do not have any modifications installed that modifies the effectors.ltx file then of course that file won't be present at all, and in fact the actual gamedata folder itself won't be present in your main installation directory either. If you do not intend to use any modifications but still want to give a try to the changed head bobbing effect then all you have to do is to create the gamedata folder, and after that of course add inside it the config folder, and then the misc folder... and finally add the effectors.ltx inside and voila it's done.

If you don't feel like finding a modified effectors file around the web or if you don't feel like extracting the default data files of the game (the compressed ones) to find the default effectors then let me know it, I will send you my own effectors via e-mail, just send me a PM about it with your public e-mail address.

Ok I've decided to get this game. Can someone point me in the right direction for all of the latest patches, mods, extra levels, etc?

Any help greatly appreciated.

If you want to use modifications (which is highly recommended for this game) then you should install patch 1.0004, because more recent patches are not compatible with the majority of mods out there (and the more recent patches, for example patch 1.0005 or 1.0006 don't fix anything in single-player which would be worth it, it's more about multi-player fixes than anything else really, so you don't miss anything important believe me, and playing with a good mod actually fixes way more than any patches have done so far). There's plenty places to get patch 1.0004 (or any others if you don't want to use modifications), such as Fileplanet, Filefront, Fileshack... and so on, just Google it it's very easy.

As for modifications there are four "major" (or well known) ones out there which are:

1) Oblivion-Lost: http://www.gsc-game.com/index....thm_id=12422&sec_id=16

2) Priboi Story: http://www.gsc-game.com/index....thm_id=11630&sec_id=16

3) ABC Inferno: http://board.oblivion-lost.de/showthread.php?t=10391

4) SIMBION: http://www.gsc-game.com/index....thm_id=12334&sec_id=16

There are other mods out there, and good ones too, but this group of mods is known to be the "must haves" or "must tries" (and the fourth one in the list, SIMBION, is a combination of four mods plus exclusive changes by itself, I believe that so far SIMBION is the most complex of them all, totaling about 300MB of data once uncompressed).

Also I would like to add a link to a thread over at TweakGuides.com which was started back in 2005 and still persists today. In that thread you will find all of the information you could possibly want to get, believe me, just take the time to read the latest pages especially (let's say about 20 to 30 pages starting from the last one), here's the link: http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?t=279

And then, of course, the quintessential S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Tweak Guide itself, from the same web-site above: http://www.tweakguides.com/STALKER_1.html

Heh, I tried this game a few days ago (no mods, patch 1.005). A few things in the game annoyed me so I decided to uninstall it and try out Bioshock in a few days. I didnt like the fact that there was no key to grab all inventory from a body (I'm getting shot at and the inventory screen is open). The map system confused me; the radiation spots around the map irked me a few times! I wish there was a way to tell which spots were bad. The mission system got a bit using too.

Anyway, ill try out the mods soon and maybe I'll change my mind.. but one thing I like about the game is that its open-ended and I can be on diff. missions at once.
