Why do you have a PS3? What do you use it for?

Just curious. I have a 360. It's pretty great. Forza 4? Dope. Halo series? F'n great. The feel of the controller? Perfect. Xbox Live? Full of little kids, but a most excellent service nonetheless. The UI? Marvelous.

I'm happy. But something about the PS3 stirs up quite the sense of curiosity within me. If I got a PS3, I'd get rid of my 360. Don't want both. I need help deciding which to keep/get. So my question to you guys essentially are:

-What exclusives do you enjoy the most on the PS3?
-How are the media server capabilities?
-Blu-ray. Come on, do you really use it?
-FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH BOTH SYSTEMS: Which do you use more and why?

Demon's/Dark Souls
Ratchet and Clank
Disgaea
God of War
inFamous

Other series that most people rave about:

Killzone
Resistance
Little Big Planet
Gran Turismo

Media server capabilities are the exact same for both systems assuming you use a program like PS3 Media Server. I'm pretty sure both systems function the same, but I'm not 100% on that.

Occasionally, when I'm watching something I own legit . The inclusion of a Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 isn't about movies, it's about having 50gb of storage for games. I don't like to switch discs. This isn't 1998 anymore.

My PS3. I like the exclusives more and the controller more. That's just my opinion though.

I just play the exclusive games, have an HTPC for media center activities. Don't use Blu-ray.

I have a 360, and gaming wise, I personally prefer the 360. Dislike the controller, but much prefer the Live service.

I have all 3 (360, PS3, and Wii). Answers to your questions below:

-What exclusives do you enjoy the most on the PS3? MLB: The Show series, God of War series, and Uncharted series.

-How are the media server capabilities? They're fine if you use PS3 Media Server. I don't really use it for that, however.

-Blu-ray. Come on, do you really use it? Not much. I have a blu-ray player in my main entertainment center and that's the one I generally use.

-FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH BOTH SYSTEMS: Which do you use more and why? Right now, the PS3 because I'm playing Uncharted 3 and the God of War: Origin games. I got the PS3 for the exclusives and I was sick and tired of crappy dying Xbox hardware. I still buy some games for the Xbox because my brothers only have an Xbox and we like to have sports leagues (Madden, NBA). Otherwise, I would be buying PS3 versions of everything.

I got my ps3 for blu-ray, and the games. I already had a 360. Right now I don't use either very much because I have a good PC for games now, and I have a separate blu-ray player that works fine. All I'm holding on to it for right now is the new Twisted Metal game and a couple past exclusives I haven't gotten to yet. Last game I played on it was Infamous 2, and it was well worth the full price and remains my GOTY. The 360 is being held onto because I play sports games and such with friends on that.

I got my PS3 a few years ago when it was a steep cost and a year or so after that a Xbox 360.

The 360 pissed me off in that I had to pay for online gaming that was free on the PS3.

I personally prefer the PS3 controller by far over the Xbox controller but that is of course a personal preference.

Media wise, the Xbox always seemed to have issues when trying to stream DLNA content to it and just overall was a unfavorable experience in that regard.

The PS3 excels at media functions IMO. Hulu, Netflix, DLNA via PS3 Media Server, blu-rays, etc. All solid and just works.

I sold my Xbox 360 earlier this year it got such little use.

In the Xbox 1 PS2 days I preferred the Xbox 1. So who knows which I'll go with/prefer when the next gen consoles come along in a few years or less.

As for exclusives. I love the Uncharted games. Can't wait to give the latest one a play.

I play the MLB The Show games, the PixelJunk games, and it's great at streaming videos from my computer to the big screen.

I got my PS3 earlier this year when the new Mortal Kombat came out. I really haven't got a preference either way, but I've always been a huge Gran Turismo fan, so I figured if I'm buying a new console, might as well get a PS3 so I can play GT5. Since I bought it, I've picked up about 20 games.

That's about the only reason I went PS3. I've only ever owned PlayStations, so I was more familiar with that platform as a whole. I do plan on getting a 360 at some point, as there are a few exclusives I've seen over the years that I want to play. Thinking I might bite on a Black Friday deal if there's one good enough.

I don't play much online, because I think I got my fill of online gaming throughout my teenage years with Quake 1/2/3. I'll play online every once in a while, but, I don't dig it on consoles much.

My PS3 is used only for gaming and a Blu-ray here and there. I don't use NetFlix, and my Boxee Box streams all my 1080p MKVs with great ease.

Oh, I also enjoy the PSOne classics quite a bit. I've only bought one so far, but I'm sure there will be more in the future. $6 for a full working copy of games from my youth, without having to frig with an old system, etc, etc. Well worth it to me.

The only thing i currently use my 360 for is to stream music from my computer through my HT, and thats only because it interfaces with WMP nicely and has a decent playsting featre. the PS3 does not

I have not played a game on my 360 since Reach came out. and actually all but 2 of my 360 games are called Halo

Have all three myself, Wii, PS3 and 360. The 3 year old plays the crap out of the Wii, older kids not so much anymore.

The 360 gets played for mostly the 360 exclusives, Halo etc... and that's about it except maybe playing some older Xbox games.

We have three PS3's and use them for Blu-Ray (a great Blu-Ray player) and DVD playback. Being able to copy videos directly to the PS3 harddrive is great and the PS3 plays just about any video format I throw at it. Anything not copied locally I can stream from my DLNA server, video, audio etc...

Don't use Netflix, so can't comment regarding that, but I do appreciate not having to pay Xbox Live fees on them.

I have a gaming PC, PS3, 360. I use the gaming PC the most since anything that is cross-platform will almost always have better graphics on PC than PS3/360 and allows mods (see the Skyrim thread).

Blu-ray: yes, I don't torrent / usenet and blu-ray offers the best picture for big-budget movies. The PS3 is also a better DVD player than my 360, which has an odd screen-door / pixellated effect sometimes.

I watch a fair amount of Netflix streaming, and it works great (wifi connection to a router about 15' away).

Exclusives:
Ratchet & Clank, Valkkyria Chronicles, Infamous, Uncharted series. Sony has also started porting PS2 games like Odin Sphere to run on the newer PS3s that are missing backwards compatibility, and pricing them at $10. You can also download PS1 classics like Chrono Trigger cheap.

Great Room: PS3 and Wii. The 2 younger kids play on the Wii, we use the PS3 for Netflix and watching movies, the majority of which are Blu-Ray.

Loft: PS3 and XBox360. The 2 older kids game on both the PS3 and the 360, but we don't have Live!, so that limits the playability of the XBox a bit. They use the PS3 up there for watching movies and Netflix as well.

I don't game nearly as much as I used to, but if I buy a game that is available for both systems, I usually buy the PS3 version.

I *tried* to like the 360...I really did. :|

I did. Had a 360 for like five years, but I don't want to pay for P2P, the exclusives dried up and the machine is made by a software company.

I play games on my PS3 and PC. I was never a Halo person, so the only franchise I miss is Gears, but with Uncharted and Infamous I have my favorite TPS franchises.

I use the 360 for most games for two reasons.

1) For online play, all friends have 360s.
2) I prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 controller (except for the DPad).

1) I'm too lazy to answer this. Each console obviously has their own exclusives and they all have some great ones.
2) Mediocre.
3) Um, yes.
4) PS3 mostly. Then Wii. 360 gets used the least.

Good point that I forgot to mention in my post. I was using my Xboxes as Netflix players but decided that I don't play online games enough to justify the XBL Gold cost and I sure as heck wasn't paying MS just for the privilege of watching Netflix, so I use my PS3 as the Netflix player in my man cave (use a Roku and the Panasonic's Viera Cast on my other TVs).

I recently sold all my PS3 games with the exception of Uncharted 2, it's one of those games where it's great to revisit once in a while. I don't find myself playing games on my PS3 anymore mainly because I really am not a fan of the controller. My PS3 is used mostly for Netflix Streaming and Blurays.
