Why do *you* like rap?

I think there are a number of reasons I like rap.

First off, I love a good deep low sound. I love bass. The beats are usually amazing.

Second, even though where I've lived has been a relatively calm area, I went to school in bad areas, my friends were all involved in gangs or organized street crime. I was exposed to all the bad things that come along with it. So while I didn't directly experience a lot of these things, I was certainly aware of it.

What I don't like about rap, is the songs that glorify being blinged out, rolling on dubs and when they start talking about their bitches. I don't like those songs.

I like hearing about the real stuff. It can be very powerful and emotionally charged music. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who can't see the forest through the trees and label everything as crap because of the fools who abuse the image to make money.

i think rap is terrible. they cant even use their own beats, they have to steal another artists creation. its not original, its not clever, its just plain dumb. i think its a just a waste of time and i for one cannot stand the genre. i dont understand what the obsession or the fad is with it.

There are a lot of rap out there that does not rap about killing cops and gang banging. You should take a step back from the tv/internet, wherever you get your news from. A good amount of rap/hip hop has a positive voice for society.

This will be a good one I like some rap because it's a view into a culture vastly different from mine. It certainly takes talent; if it didn't you could all be making millions instead of working your lovely IT jobs.

Exactly.

Take a look at the "who is the best rapper" threads and see if you don't notice a trend. The people who actually get respect, the good rappers, are not the ones rapping about ice and bling and dubs. They tell a story.

Why I have to admit sometimes rap is senseless(I listen to all music but rap is at the top being from the inner city)some of it is good. There are the songs where they do talk about how they got 5 chicks and the next line is about how they grew up without heat and your just like where the hell did that come from.
As far as some lyrics though I have heard worst stuff in rock and heavy metal then I have with rap.
But hey theres music for a certain mood. You just got pulled over some NWA is good to listen to.
Your gf is coming over then its time to put on some keith sweat
Getting up for work at 7am some godsmack will do better than a cup of joe
And some beethoven for those long days when relaxation is key

Moral of the story don't be ignorant just because you grew up in Idaho (or some other in the middle of nowhere) doesn't mean you can judge all of one genre cause you listened to two songs
