i have never overclocked becasue im happy at what my mobo fsb is at (fic az11) and cpu (800mhz duron)

do you actually notice when you overclock your cpu or mobo by a little?

and arent you worried that you might mess up the product?

Well OC'ing used to be worthwhile. OC'ing a Celeron from 300 to 450 is a good thing since its a 50% increase. But these days, why bother?

w00t! My 1.4 Athlon XP is now running at 1.53!!! What a huge increase.

So no, I don't OC anymore.

Many overclock because they can. I overclock mine with the FSB to get better overall system performance. Plus knowing that my 1.4 Ghz 1600XP is running at 1.575Ghz is why I do it. I paid for a 1600 but really have a 1900! Plus I crunch Seti for the TeAm and it get's WU's out quicker! It's also a braggin rights thing. Sort of liek the guys that have these really fast cars and try to sup them up even more.

I don't anymore. I used to OC constantly, K6-2's, Celerons, P3's, a couple TBirds, etc.

Now I have no reason to. I run dual TBirds, & my Tiger MP wouldn't support OCing if I wanted to.

Now I just have to convince myself I really don't need dual 1800+'s...

Because 800Mhz is better than 600Mhz.

That and with my chip it was easy as pie. With standard heatsink and fan I've been running my P3 600Mhz@800Mhz for over a year. Never had a heat issue and from what I've read here, the temps are normal.

Yeah, back when I had a 300A celeron and got it to a stable 450 it was pretty slick. Nowadays I don't see much point, unless you invest in some water coolant system and overclock a 2ghz to 3 ghz like on tomshardware,

makes me feel like a manly man...

seriously haven't overclocked since my celeron 466 and that was barely overclocking.. even with super cooling, i could only get it stable @ 525Mhz. right now it's running 500Mhz in a minitower case with just alpha heatsink/fan..

and my duron 800 cant overclock since i gotta fic az11.. then again, i have no need to overclock. my system runs all the games i like (CS!) just fine the way it is

Celeron 900 @ 1116, video card also slightly overclocked.

Because it's faster for free, and I have a backup Celeron 466 CPU anyways.

Pansies. (Okay, with a Celeron as my main system I shouldn't talk.)

Cause I have to.. I feel compelled to up my FSB... to crank up the voltage... to get 950Mhz out of a 633 or 850 out of a 566... just have to do it... if I couldn't do it I wouldn't know what to do with myself...

It's fun. And for bragging rights.

Seriously, though, it is fun to see what you can do with something. No, I don't need to overclock, but I do like to see if I can beat other folks in benchmarks.

In the end, it beats smoking crack and robbing sandwich shops, right?

I overclock because my Celeron was intended to run at the 66MHz FSB, which is a sentence to poor performance. Increase the FSB to 100MHz and you gain doubly: 50% more clock speed and 50% more memory bandwidth...all the while maintaining spec with the PCI and AGP busses and still able to stay cool enough. A 533Mhz Celeron tied to a 66MHz bus is barely usable with any of today's intensive apps (think Flask), but one overclocked to 800/100 is a tolerable performer.

lol...it's pretty fun, untill the whole "can't feel my face-horribly addicted-sucking D!ck for it-being raped by Robert Downey Jr. and Lawrence Taylor" part of it

OC'ing is awesome, because it's better performance of the whole machine, for free. And it feels kinda good that you paid for 750MHz, and were able to get 1.1GHz (in my case)...

The real question is, why wouldn't you want to overclock?

I just OC'd my video card. I have a GeForce 3 Ti200 and I OC'd it to the original GeForce specs.
