I try to avoid Walmart at all cost....The narrow isle's of my Walmart are filled with overweight rude hispanic women who just sit there bs'ing while there children terrorize the store....Sometimes you just want to reach out and slap someone

As far as prices go....Who cares if they are cheaper if they don't have the items in stock!

I much prefer to shop at the "King of Clearance" Target....I've gotten many killer deals from them

well we used to shop at 2-4 until my daughter was born. Now we do whenever we can. Though i have hit wal-mart at 3am plenty of times even after she was born.

I have to admit to being a "night person" as well. I wish that there were more stores open 24hr around here. Thankfully, not to far away, is a town with a few colleges, and a 24hr WalGreen's, and a McD's/Wendy's/BK that are all open late (and the McD's 24hr, if you're really desperate. Oh yeah, a Dunkin' Doughnuts too.)

I actually prefer shopping at the WalGreens most of the time, the store is nicer, the help is better, the store may not be quite as large, nor the selection, but they actually often have *better* prices that Wal-Mart, if you shop the sales. They don't have "everyday low prices" on soda like Mt. Dew though, so that's kind of hit-or-miss. (They do have mad discounts on seasonal candy after the holiday passes though.)

i do not understand the Wal-Mart haters , it boggles my mind

1 out of every 200 eh? I call shens on that statistic.

Maybe "retail employer"? Outside of the gov't and GM (who has largely outsourced many of their assembly-line jobs to Canada and Mexicoa after NAFTA happened), Wal-Mart is probably next in line. A lot of people don't really how truly *huge* that company is.

My Walmart is full of Redneck, Ugly Fat white woman etc... and so what?.You use the word TERRORIZE in the totally wrong way. I see that people like you are very narrow minded. I dont blame you. Like most american, you haven't been abroad or have few foreign friends. You message would do well in a KKK forum as i can sense some hateful words. At this point i dont know if you can get any smarter, but my advise to you is to watch other channels beside FOX news, and read Newspaper more often it will help you.
HISPANIC/BLACK/WHITE TRASH etc..., without them, this country's economy will go down. Who will pick tomatoes at $<4/hour so you can enjoy your burrito at .99cent. If you live in a house, ask your mom who built it. Those people work hard and never complaint openly.
If i was one of them, i would be rude if a rotten brat like you would show up at my work place with a rich white kid attitude.
You may not agree with Walmart policy, but those people agreed to work there anyway knowing the pay off.
Back in the days, your grand parents were in the same situation, working in factories for pitiful wages so that you can have a better life.
I am just tired of reading comments from ignorant people.

I buy from Wal-Mart because they are cheap and efficient. It's capitalism at work, pure and simple. If it weren't for Wal-Mart I'd have to drive 50+ miles to buy even mundane, daily items. If it went out of business I don't know how the small town I live in could survive. We have the big business haters having meetings and acting like they give a crap about people, which they don't. These "small business" owners want government to give them a monopoly by force of law in their area of business by excluding Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

I've worked at wally world before. Most of the people are normal, everyday people who just happen to work at a very sucessful business. They're just as, if not more, friendly than the local business owner with an ego bigger than their business. Just as software companies must adapt (more service, support) to the free software movement, small business must adapt (better service, variety, or support) to a world with discount retail outlets.

(this is from someone with a background of employment at small/family businesses that adjusted to the marketplace)

The Wal-Mart is lowering its prices to keep me there!

Today I went to Wal-Mart on lunch and saw they had a pretty close match to a TV stand I wanted from Best Buy but just didn't want to spend the $$ on, the one at BB was about $150ish, for what looks like the exact same design I picked it up from Wal-Mart for $80. Guess their prices really are lower.

I don't.

The primary reason for me is that the nearest Wal-Mart is cross-town and about 10 miles away. But even if there were one closer, I would not shop there because during the rare times that I have visited a Wal-Mart, I have found that: (1) their prices are not that special, (2) the quality of their merchandise is sub-par (which ruins any possible appeal of their moderately low prices), (3) their customer service is absolutely horrid, (4) their stores are filthy, and (5) the very size of their stores and their parking lots makes shopping there inconvenient.

If you live in and around the Portland area and need cheap groceries, then Winco Foods' prices are cheaper than Wal-Mart's by far.

If you live anywhere in the US, then my experience is that Costco > Target > Wal-Mart.

Here's a tip for all the "consumers" here. If getting a low price is far more important to you than getting a quality product, then you are either: setting yourself up to spend more in the long run (more frequent replacement), or you are buying something you really don't need or want anyway (and should really reconsider your purchase).

No offense meant shagger, but look at this from a different angle. This psuedo-economic theory that Wal-Mart somehow damages the country has no basis in reality. Large retailers are able to have lower prices because of many factors, not just buying from China or low wages. The business structure of Wal-Mart focuses on high volume sales of everyday items. They make their money on toilet paper, socks, and cheap soda. They also maintain an extremely low onsite inventory and point of sale restocking.

This efficient business practice has allowed it to expand. The side of the coin that isn't publicized is the alternative. Small, disorganized outlets of goods must maintain higher inventories, spend more time in micromanagement, and suffer from crude shipping practices. The long term impact will be reduced manpower and resources to accomplish the same task. This saved manpower and wealth will stay closer to your city, state, and country. If anything, Wal-Mart has opened the way for specialization by eliminating the work needed to provide daily goods to consumers. Look at the selection of a typical mall today compared to one 20 years ago and the Wal-Mart effect will show results. (gaming stores, big-ass pretzals, bookstores, etc)

I've had much better experiences with the quality, cleanliness, and prices. However, you've pointed out the right reasons to not buy from any certain retail store. Using cost as the only factor is stupid. For instance, while in college there was a nearby super-ghetto style grocery store. They were cheaper and closer, but I wouldn't give their food to my worst enemy based on the filthly store and shady attitudes of the employees. When I lived by a very small town (less than 700 people) I still bought groceries at the local, higher priced store because of quality and service. (knew the butcher by name, would even custom cut steaks and grind own hamburger... so....tasty....)

I never shop at Walmart. They are a very mean spirited company.

I will say something I heard on another forum.

I love Walmart, it keeps all the white trash out of the places I shop.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart. It's a bit out of the way, they have pallets full of useless crap (plastic cups with gaudy palm trees and umbrellas on top) littering the aisles, and out of the three times I went there, not once did they have what I was looking for.

I generally don't. The only time I do go is when I need to purchase something at midnight and nothing else is open that would carry a similar item. The sad thing is that the lines are still full at midnight. They're going to take over the world!

I usually don't. It's not that I don't want to, it's that I don't have any really near me. The closest one to me is half an hour away.

But, they are trying to build one just down the road from me, and I have already decided that I probably won't shop there, because I already have a Fred Meyer right across the street to me. The reason? No particular reason, really.

But to the Walmart's I have been to, and I've been to every Walmart from Bellingham to Portland, and East to La Grande, Oregon, it's been decent.

"Here's a tip for all the "consumers" here. If getting a low price is far more important to you than getting a quality product..."

Yeah the Scott tissue, Motorcraft oil filters, Bic pens, Columbia DVDs, Haynes underwear, Canon digital cameras, Dial soap... are all so inferior to the same items sold at Costco.

You have a point, but... I can get those same items at a cleaner and friendlier Costco store for the same or better price. And Costco is much closer and more convenient to me.

You're taking my words out of context anyway. Perhaps you should re-read my entire post?
