why does a person need to carry a gun on a daily basis in america in 2005?

Inspired by another thread...

Does a gun make you feel safer? I think about all the times I wish I had been carrying a gun in my life, and they total 0. I don't think we need to outlaw guns or anything... I think guns are awesome, fun to shoot, etc... But why would you need to carry one on a daily basis?

It seems to me like "I need one for protection" pretty much is just an excuse to justify the purchase of a new toy. Anybody else feel this way?

huh.. you can carry guns? I thought tht was illegal unless you're a cop, or some other officer. I thought civilians aren't allows to carry guns in public and only maybe in ranges or something.

You have to apply to be able to carry in NY... but yes you can... We're not as cool as Texas

I think they would prob be in jail. Unless you were robbed at gun point or could reasonably proove your life was in danger.

I don't carry a handgun because the one time I would get robbed, it would be out of reach or I would have forgotten to carry it.

For a handgun to be useful, it needs to be accessible at all times. That means you need to carry it with you, which is illegal in a lot of places and can result in a felony charge against you. (Federal buildings, bars, school zones, airports, trade zones, etc.)

I will have to rely on my ninja skills.

Depends what you do for aliving. If you're an IT guy or a programmer, then yeah, you probably don't need one. I was in building management for a while (may go back into it), and alot of guys in that field pack heat. There are times you gotta go into the hood, knock on doors and collect rent. You have to evict alot of pissed off people. There have been too many incidents to count. My friend is a diamond salesman, he carries for obvious reasons.

I understand the fear if he was shot or was hurt physically, but losing a car or other material goods can't be worth the time it would take to file all the police reports for shooting somebody, or the risk that the gun would fall into the wrong hands during the years that you are carrying it waiting for the opportunity to use it...

If you have a gun you dont fvck around like that. If you shoot someone, shoot to kill.... and I am being serious.... if you kill someone in self defense, you are fine, if you injure them, they can sue you, make up a story, and generally make your life hell... plus if you shoot them in the foot they can still kill you...


If you are mugged on the street at gunpoint, sometimes these people will kill you, sometimes they wont, but wouldnt the world be a better place if you just shot and killed them so they wouldnt rob/rape the next person that came along?

You never shoot someone in the foot. If a situation arises where you have to draw your weapon, you better be prepared to take the guy down, i.e. shoot for center mass.
