why does AIM keep disconnecting?

It keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 20-30 mins or less. Got a Netgear router(wired).

I don't know, but I would suggest trying gaim. Gaim.sourceforge.net. Open source version of aim that is compatible with msn yahoo and others if you want that. But the main reason Id try it is to see if it has the same problems. You may find you like it better anyway

gaim, or trillian, or miranda all good clients

i would actually switch back to gaim if there was a non linux based "word swap" plugin

Hey, I have that exact same problem. I also have a Netgear router.

Time to dump Netgear router and get yourself with Linksys or Dlink routers. So few people buy netgear these day.
My Trillian Pro 3.1 and AIM client works fine with my Linksys router.

From what I heard CS:S has problems with Linksys. Or at least the older ones. Reason for me buying this wireless Netgear is I got it for $12 shipped with no rebates and it has seemed to fix the CS:S issues. I am sure it's something simple somewhere.

gaim seems to be working but how can you minimize it to the tray like AIM?

I'm using AIM with ad hack and I've had it up for a couple of days now.
