That was totally uncalled for.

And I think this may be a joke on the Inq's part.

Denied them their toys? Sounds like your lashing out. I asked why there, and not in other places. I get guys making fun of it, and guys making fun of those people, and some who "know" (and I use that term loosely ) exactly why. Not.

So far I have:

More exotic place
Cheaper but historic
Not as technologically stunted as most would think
It's funny how we are ingorant about Africa (thats why I was asking)

If none of you really know, just say so.
Sheesh.

/thread.

Oh, africans aren't technologically stunted when it comes to anything military oriented, but where water, sanitation and agriculture (the staples of life) are concerned, even the most backward corner of dark-ages Europe had it better than most africans do today. And they expect the rest of the world to provide aid while they squander what meager resources they do have on endless tribal warfare....

Then there is the electricity issue that affects most of africa - how do you operate a power-pig of a video card in a land that barely has a power supply? Perhaps ATI has a suprise in store with R600 - the back of the card features a handcrank similar to those found on windup radio's for africa. Unfortunately you'll spend far more time cranking R600 up than actually using it...

Excuse me? I'm not being racist at all. What I stated is exactly what does go on in Africa at present, regardless of race. Unlike some here I'm a realist and call a spade a spade no matter if it was manufactured in the USA, Russia, Africa or China.

Fine, you are entitled to your opinion, i'm not disputing that, just don't spew it all over the Video Forum, take it to OT

Well, we were discussing reasons and speculation on why AMD might launch it in Africa. He was just trying to prove someone's points wrong...

His comments, while uncalled for and off topic, are not untrue.

90% of African nations have more important things to deal with. Such as establishing stable governments, feeding their families and stopping genocide.

The population starves while war lords enjoy caviar, 18 holes of golf and now high end video cards

Gstanfor and the other usual suspects gobbling up INQs rumors and going on an anti-AMD tirade? Color me surprised. Don't worry, soon as they're done belittling Africa, Greg and his band of idiots will turn their attention on you again to remind you of how pea brained you are for serving our country.

Wow. LoL.

Nothing ever changes in Video.

While some of Gstanfor's limited views of Africa maybe true, does the article detail what part of Africa it will be launched in? I heard it's an inquirer link so I haven't bothered actually reading it, but to think that all of Africa is this backwater version of Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" is a bit far-fetched and has racism sprinkled in and around it. South Africa is a fairly developed part of the world, and to think that they have any less luxuries than say Australia or America completely rules out social status and economics of that region.

I'm sorry but that comment seemed more like the typical knee-jerk of Gstanfor and his dwindling home-business trying to get a shot at a company than an intelligent, accurate view of the different parts of Africa. An overgeneralization with a hint of racism, how like our forum idiot....

If ati never release a competitive card than this whole forum will become OT. If Ati does release a player, than we will be back to castigating each other nicely. :music:

What is so odd about having your launch party in an exotic and interesting place?

I'm sure Tunis is a lot more interesting than the usual united state-ian cities products are launched in.

My goodness. What an outburst. Shouldn't expect any better from a fanatic though - its all they are good for....

FYI South Africa is at the opposite end of the continent to Tunisia (the alleged place the event is to be held) and has in the past been sujected to international and Commonwealth sanctions due to racism within the country apartheid.

You need not concern yourself about my business either -- I can assure you that it's anything but "dwindling" except perhaps in the minds of desperate fanatics...

Launch it in a Mexican brothel for all I care. Just get it out and get it in stores. The tech sites have been soooo boring lately. We need some good competition to heat things up and drive us into the next holiday buying season.

I tell ya one thing a lot of people are itching to blow their tax returns on something, so AMD had better hurry.

Tunisia? Has there ever been a tech launch there?

I think this just a sick joke on the INQ's part.

You're right. Maybe I need to calm down and wish that other people I don't know stop breathing "permanently".....

It's not even worth arguing with you. Everyone who's been here a good while knows you're a tard.

Hence why I haven't read the article, nor ever do.

People hear what they want to hear from that site and run with it.

Well, I don't actually care where it is launched. I was wondering "why Africa". And by the way, although nobody has actually said it yet, "why not?" is not an aswer I'm looking for. We all know, "why not". It's the "why" part that I'm interested in. Are you ok with this?

Well, the info came from "somewhere". The better question would be, why don't you believe it?
