maybe because in states that still have a duty to retreat law, you have to announce that you're armed before you fire at an intruder.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_law#Duty-to-retreat
the duty-to-retreat clause expressly imposes an obligation upon the home's occupants to retreat as far as possible and verbally announce their intent to use deadly force, before they can be legally justified in doing so to defend themselves.

In RL mi casa es su casa. My roomate and I almost never lock the door and we have friends family coming and going at all hours. Good thing I'm not a gun nut or I'd have to cower next to my gun all day long like the clowns in this thread.

You know what happens when you assume? You look like a wise and beautiful woman

In all seriousness though, I'm fine leaving my door unlocked. Yes, I have firearms. Yes, I'll use them without hesitation. But I've never reached for one (in my home) and probably never will. There are a few whackos as described by you, but the majority of gun owners don't revolve their lives around having a firearm on them.

because some have brains. Maybe its a friend or a family member.

Guess this is why most firearm shootings are 'accidental'

100% bold faced ignorant asshole lying!!!

Accidents account for about 3% of gun deaths, and have been steadily declining for decades.

'Most' firearm shootings (involving injury or death) are suicide.

Castle Doctine here--no duty to retreat. And why should I have to retreat in my own house? Give them and inch they'll eventually take my life or that of my family. Screw 'em.

The dead don't talk...you can tell the cops you did inform the intruder that their head was about to be removed...

Conversely, maybe they get scared and shoot at you, when all they really wanted was your laptop.

they cant have it.

Did the criminal announce that they were entering?

whatever noise that woke you up or made you decide you needed to investigate was them announcing it.

How about not being another idiot in the news that shots and kills their kid, wife, etc...

i wont pull a trigger until i see a stranger. first place i check when i hear a weird noise around my house is my kids rooms to make sure they are ok.

If they didn't give me "fair warning" that they were going to break into my house, I'm not going to give them "fair warning" that I'm going to shoot to kill. Of course, shooting an intruder without knowing it's an intruder first is stupid.

this

Because it's a liberal message board. Same reason I get an "infraction" for calling someone a cuntwad when he is one.

i got a ban warning for calling myself a beloved patriot. :\

all that said, whether ill warn or not is totally subjective and dependent on the situation. i cant honestly say that id always warn or just shoot someone i identify as an intruder.

not only that, but according to http://www.azleg.gov/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/legtext/47leg/2r/laws/0199.htm this, if i see you jack a kids bike and youre looking like you will harm him, i can kill you. :awe:

wow..

can i honestly ask out of who that posted has really taken someone's life?

Because even cops have to go though months of therapy when there involved in a gun fight where a life is taken.

You guys really think when you looking at someone with a loaded gun, pulling the trigger is that easy the first time?

Unfortunately we can't ask the people that instead just get murdered how they felt about the whole situation.

well i was hoping the ones who did it legally could comment.

Like military, or law enforcement.
Or someone who really did shoot someone on self defense.

No I cannot imagine what it would be like. I can't imagine doing it. Now if my or someone else's life was seriously at stake, I'm sure that adrenaline could help during that instant. But afterwards,.... don't want to think about it.

I dont know, possibly because a warning is a humane and moral thing to do? Unless you've got an itchy trigger finger ot your protecting your family. Becuse it simply cant be possible that someone you know/lives there, tried to wake you up, couldent, so tries to come in through the window, then gets shot in the head because you were too much a fucking asshole to toss a warning while you were hiding like an idiot.

That could never happen!

I'm not sure what fantasy world you live in where friends break into other friend's houses through the window to "wake them up". Rofl. If I can't hear my doorbell, then I can't be bothered to wake up to shoot someone.

Who said break in? Also what fantasy world do YOU live in where you think that kind of shit doesn't happen all the time? Anyway the point was to shout out a warning you can see the other person. No one wants to shoot a friend.
