I'm not going to lie to you man that does suck, I was using Bell South for the longest time, and then switched to Comcast, and I have nothing but good things to say about the service. I use it mostly for gaming though, but like I said when I do download it seems to be site limited, after all when I hit a popular torrent I'll hit 6Mb no problem, tomorrow when they release the new version of Ubuntu Linux, I know I'll hit 700+ kBs.

I recal some one once telling me that the network bandwidth for cable works differently than that of DSL, and that DSL is dictated as bandwidth to the customer's house, and cable is bandwidth to the nerest box, so no mater how many people in your neighborhood get dsl your connection speed is dictated by your line quality, where cable that bandwidth to the box is limited by the number of people connected to that box using the internet at that time. So if everyone connected to that box is sapping bandwidth your download speed will go down.

I live in a ****** (<-- anand censored this, it rhymes with pitty) neighborhood, and I get the impression that highspeed internet isn't of paramount concern to most of my neighbors, so perhaps I have all that bandwidth to myself? I don't know I'm just going off of what some guy once told, me though.

Had comcast when stationed at Fort Meade and I got the full 6Mbit. Moved 2 miles down the road and across from the base and can only get about 3Mbit, despite staying on the higher-bandwidth plan. My upload rate stayed the same though at 768Kbit.

My comcast connection is lousy recently. There is huge packet loss occuring randomly, which has the effect of reducing the transfer speed to ridiculous low levels, sometimes even completely stalling so even DNS and HTTP requests fail. But usually it just translates to horrendously low speed and laggy connection. This happens many times throughout the day and night, but in between this interruptions I get normal connection at full speed (over 4mbps). The "bad" periods can last from a few minutes to a couple of hours, and as I mentioned they happens at least a few times a day.

The problem is I just cant live with this un-reliable connection, especially for online gaming, if it happens during a game then it ruins it. I'm sick and tired of this. Does anyone know what could cause this and if there is any chance comcast can fix it ? is it just that the shared connection is overloaded and everyones speed tanks, or could it be a bad switch somewhere at comcast infrastructure ? This has been going on for a few months at least. Either way, I think I'm done with this crap company, I just ordered sbc dsl......hahahah

I'm getting 4.5Mbps down, 350 Kbps up on my Comcast line using Speakeasy's test (Chicago server) with someone playing World of Warcraft and someone else surfing the web on the connection. Anyone know of a site that can push 6Mbps+ so I can test the absolute max speed on my line?
